I would weld in a straight pipe -- open chamber will probably result a lot of unwanted turbulence and you may very well lose power.
Also, it's gonna be really loud... you might want to pack steel wool or something like that around the straight pipe if you go that route to keep the sound down.

Welded in some elbows, man it was a biatch to cover back up, even on lowest setting the weld would just hole the muffler material, took an age but all sealed, I will have internal shots prior to sealing up when I get them emailed to me, I fitted this up to my vehicle, it sounds sick! , loud, zero rasp, at full tilt it is very screamy, just how I wanted it, as promised over the next week or so I will post up a vid and also visit the dyno, it has picked up some for sure.
Took some weights today also for info. Stock muffler weight = 27.50 lbs Cut up Muffler with iinternal 90's = 24.69lbs 2.81 lbs of crap removed, not massive but worth noting since I was doing this anyway. Here is the resealed unit. Really happy with it presently, went out tonight to a couple car meets, good comments from my pal as I blasted past his Mustang lol ;-)

Nice work though. I can't wait for some good sound clips - this may be what we do to ours as well. I've yet to find a catback for this car that sounds good and retains a true stock-like look.

Looking forward to videos to hear it. Looks like you cut into the bottom of the muffler. Maybe for any future muffler-cutters, make your opening on the top of the muffler. That way, you hide the welds once you put it back on the car. Anyone stooping down to investigate will see a totally stock looking muffler.

Considered chopping from the top but easier to do from bottom for access to gut, it has a natural 'pussy flap' ;-)
Would have loved for a neater job but it is what it is, I will try somthing else later. I want to run my dual X outlet into a single muffler at some point, maybe a carbon Fibre look muffler with off set tip, but thats another project, for now I just want to go out and rev this thing up lol, its not everyones taste, but for me it is the exact sound I was looking for.
