A rally driver here is building himself a straight exhaust for his 370 to use for rally.
no cats, just a straight pipe to the back. if I ever get the chance to record it I will |

Yeah if you guys can get me clips that would be great, cause I'm thinking of getting straight pipes. But I just can't seem to find any videos of 370s with it.

The extra flow may or may not be helpful... if there's already optimal cylinder filling/emptying given the factory valve timing, extra exhaust flow might rob you some of some low end grunt.
It may or may not be worthwhile only with a different intake set-up (and probably need a retune too). With that in mind... Do the x-pipes provide two separate paths or do they join in the middle and then split again? Any dynos that show comparison between the X and Y pipes?

x pipe joins in the middle and goes back into the pipes

The rally version 370's exhaust is apparently gonna be finished next week.
I am curious. They also completely redid the engine to 4.5 liters, custom ECU, completely removed VDC,ABS and other stuff. I want to drive it. |

Are there dyno comparisons of the difference between X and Y on power output? I could swear I read a thread where someone claimed the Y made more power (at least N/A).

I hope they can effectivley retune VVEL too -- that's going to be critical for making optimal power.

On the X v. Y v. H pipe setup, there is not exact answer. Similar to dyno machines, they all vary and can perform very well. Usually it comes down to sound based on the muffler, bends, etc. Most well build exhaust systems will all give about the same amount of power.

I do know that they bought the G3 intake. first time I came there the 370 was just bare. everything stripped out nothing but the body. |

^^^ I could see turning off the VVEL on a turboed car where you might want max overlap, but N/A, I think it's really going to hold them back.

It depends on how the exhaust is Designed but 99.9% of the time the x pipe provides the most gains.

Depending on the league and requirements, power might be easy for the 3.7L against the other cars. Removing VVEL from the equation can help for solving engine problems and quick fixes during a race. Remember power is only a percent of what is needed to win a race.
