Nissmo Exhaust System
When I went to pick up my plates at the dealership, I stopped by the parts department to buy a Z satin license plate frame. The Parts Manager asked me if I was interested in buying a Nissmo exhaust system. They had just taken it off of another new Nissmo Z because the new Nissmo owner wanted a Stillen system installed. He told me he would sell the exhaust system to me for $600 and they would even install it on my 370Z Coupe (Sport). Should I do this? How good is the Nissmo axle-back? Is this a good price?

$600 with install sounds very reasonable actually. Be sure of a few things:
1. The existing exhaust system is not damaged. 2. You get to keep your old exhaust system. They may want to keep and resell your old exhaust, but it's not like you're going to get much for it. 3. They're installing three parts: downpipes, mid-pipe, and muffler section. The OEM Nismo mid-pipe is an H-pipe vs. your standard Y-pipe. Not that all H-pipe's are better than any Y-pipe, but in this case this is what Nissan is stating. 4. The OEM Nismo exhaust is being installed with a warranty. You may want to ask the dealership to put something in writing. Most other aftermarket exhausts cost $1-2k plus shipping and install. Those perform (HP/tq gains) better, but at $600 you're definitely getting what you're paying for. |

actually, Nissssmo is the sound it makes upon deceleration, much like the hiss when rockin' HFC's.

How many times does someone need to explain that there are 2 different NISMO exhausts for the Z?

I recently sold my OEM Nismo exhaust for $400. So, $600 including install isn't a terrible deal.

OP, if they give you the warranty with it, let you keep your stock exhaust (keep it to put back on your car if/when you sell it in the future), and it's not damaged. Go for it! |

I just took a Nismo s-tune off and replaced it with a Stillen. Unless the OEM Nismo is louder than the s-tune, don't expect it to sound much (or any) different than your original exhaust. The $600 installed sounds like a good deal.

The OEM Nismo is measurably louder than stock...notice I didn't say "significantly" louder. For most people it's still not loud enough.
