370z TANABE EXHAUST and Y PIPE DYNO and VIDS
Tanabe Touring Medallion Exhaust WITH Y PIPE
PURE STOCK 276 HP 222 TQ TANABE EXHAUST ONLY – 285 HP 225 TQ ( + 9 hp and + 3 tq ) TANABE EXHAUST AND Y PIPE - 290 HP and 236 TQ ( + 14 hp and + 14 tq ) So after researching the many types of exhaust I pulled the gun on getting the Tanabe Exhaust. The below dyno chart shows the awesome gains from the exhaust comparing: STOCK TO TANABE EXHAUST, AND STOCK TO TANABE EXHAUST PLUS TANABE Y PIPE I originally owned a 350z and went through the same dilemma where I had to determine which exhaust to get. After hearing the many types of exhaust, ALMOST NONE of the EXHAUST systems stayed true to the familiar and recognized factory Z exhaust sound. Plus if you decide to catless (resonated) or high flow cats, this Exhaust will not sound NASTY or even TOO Loud for DD. My car is daily driven and when Tanabe took into account the Decibel levels and horsepower gains for one exhaust, I knew that they are really going to make an effort for a superior product. - Quality - Sound - Performance You guys won’t be disappointed, but once I can convert these videos the correct format I can post some videos. MORE VIDEOS TO COME ( DRIVE BY, Launch, FLY BY ) Enjoy!!! http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...611_151759.jpg http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...abeexhaust.jpg UPDATED: :driving: This video shows the blips from 2500k rpm then second portion shows 4500k blips... then the flowing videos will describe themselves .. enjoy This video is just for fun....enjoy :stirthepot: |
Awesome review and results!
I'm kind of surprised of how strong the results were only because when I swapped out the Tanabe Y-pipe only....I got almost no gains at all. I dynoed 275hp stock 286 after HFC's (stock cbe) and then 286 again after the Tanabe Y-pipe. (with rest of the exhaust stock) |
Freefer,
Heres the thing, how many pulls did you do? If it was the base 3 pulls... That for sure is not enough for the ECU to memorize and recalibrate the data from the driver input ( LEAD FOOT ). The new ECU's now on the most cars map the fuel curve according to our driving style, therefore whenever you get ready to install new parts either run the car really really hard for about 7 to 10 pulls or do the same after the part is installed. I have dynoed this car many many times from intakes and exhaust to see what the differences in airflow will do to maximize the learning trim on the computer. Dont be discouraged just re dyno if you want to see results but for you to really feel the y pipe... any exhaust is much needed. The stock one works but it needs more flow ( Kinda like you running with one pair of shoes when you really need two!) |
How much did the exhaust and y pipe cost you?
|
Yeah I knew that going in there but didn't have time to do more then 3 pulls stock, 3 pulls after the HFC's and then 3 pulls after the Y-pipe....resetting the ecu each time.
I figure, I'll just bring the car back down the road and see if there is any difference. |

FYI:
Tanabe exhaust won't be available till mid August according to my sales rep there. Midpipe and exhaust will be sold together and the Y PIPE is sold separately. Retail price is $1390 for the exhaust and $540 for the Y pipe. Forum pricing will be availble soon |

Excellent review, thanks for adding this to the exhaust collection
Exhaust sounds VERY clean, very true to the Z sound. Any plans for HFC's in the future? |
Lou please pm me pricing when available.

Will do, Just got the HD camera today... starting to play with it and will post some within this month hopefully Quote:
As for HFC's... yes but nothing soon... I know it will sound bi#ching though because Ive had a catless (resonated) tanabe on the 350 and it sounds awesome |
great! cant wait for pricing then.

Is the performance gain really noticeable Thanks. |
Ufreefer, how did the exhaust sound change with the y-pipe added to the OEM catback and HF cats? Wondering if it made it sound better at all or different.

The construction of the y-pipe is great, fitment it perfect, sounds great, but almost Zero performance gain in comparision to the OEM yipe. I did a 3 base dynos with OEM exhaust, then 3 dynos with the HFC's 2 hrs later (11hp & tq gain across the power band, then 3 dynos an hr later with the Tanabe Y-pipe. I got almost 0 gains from the y-pipe but didn't lose power anywhere either...basically 1-2hp midrange. I'll take the car back to the dyno again down the road to see if I get more gains, since I only did 3 pulls for each setup. |
Sounds good!
|
Awesome man... would like to see more pics and vids!! Those are pretty nice numbers also... How much were you able to get them??
I was suppose to order the medalion touring before... but something came up that time. Hopefully i can get these soon. |
Pics Please!!!! curious about the fitment of this.. from the couple pics on Tanabe's website it looks like this fits alot like the stock exhaust..

Its nothing like the other exhaust systems, it hides it like the stock exhaust... all you see from the back are the tailpipes and no actual mufflers...
Ill try and take a picture today |
Your car is nice sir... love the blue color. Made me wish I got blue instead. The Tanabe exhaust sounds good!
|
To be honest I was a little hesitant at first and thinking is this TOO BLUE? but Im glad I did because everyone who sees the blue always raves about it. Thanks Stealth for the compliments.

|
HTT760, Great Video... I'm liking this exhaust more and more...
Did you have fitment issues like needing to cut heat shields etc.. I also assume you have the tanabe Y pipe but with stock cats... Also hows the sounds from inside the cabin??? The dyno charts show awesome gains... does drive feel a lot better, torquier... Thanks again for awesome vid... |
nice vids dude

Fitment was pretty straight forward, and should be able to remove and replace. In side the cabin , you def know you have exhaust but you get that feeling where its not to loud but not quiet either. WARNING when you get this exhaust, your MPG will go down because you will love the sound right at 4000k and your rev match will happen much more frequent because you know it just sounds so good when done right. :happydance::driving: Quote:
