Help! Vibrating Catback Exhaust

I had my Invidia Gemini installed last Tuesday and everything was fine until early this morning I got my ERZ hfc installed and the whole catback exhaust is now vibrating. Pressing the accelerator pedal and as soon as you let off the gas the whole exhaust system vibrates like hell. We checked all the bolts and everything is tight. Do you guys have any suggestion what the problem is?:ugh2: Please help.

check for loose bolts in the extra o2 bungs on the HFC, people have been having issues with these rattling

We already checked those and they are all tight.

craniac24 06-10-2010 08:01 PM

It could be just the nature of the HFC. Rattles/Rasp are fairly common.

Red370 06-10-2010 08:06 PM

check the crossmember, alot of exhausts tend to sit very close to it and are probably vibrating against it, its a pretty noisy occurance.

when we lifted the car up to the lifter and rev it, as soon as the rpm drops down we saw that the catback is vibrating. It just happen when I installed the ERZ hfc. We checked if it is hitting against something but we didn't see nothing. My transmission is vibrating too.:shakes head:

did u check all the hangers to make sure one didnt break? Seems kinda wierd, it shouldnt be doing that.

Then I would say the vibration is really coming from the front but just getting amplified on the CBE. Double check the HFCs.

That's what I am thinking off. I had Invidia Gemini installed few weeks ago with the stock hfc and no vibration at that time.

It only happens at exactly 1800 rpm. I put it up in the air and tried free-revving it to see what was vibrating, but everything seems solid. I've followed the entire exhaust system from the exhaust manifolds to the muffler and nothing is touching or loose from front to back. All exhaust hangers/bushings are in use and tight.[YOUTUBE]

It will vibrate. I'm pretty sure what you are hearing is the exhaust touching the crossmember. Mine didn't touch either, but when running and vibrating some it would. I just put a thick washer on every bolt hole between the cross brace and the car and it solved the problem.

I have Gemini + Berk test pipes.

"between the cross brace and the car "? is this the metal bracket that on top of the invidia x pipe?...

the whole pipe from the hfc to the pipe before the muffler is shaking:shakes head:. my shifter knob is vibrating too everytime the pipes shake.

Maybe it's curved flanges on your most recently added part? Possibly a poor contact on a flange is allowing movement.

I don't know. I don't have any idea now. I love the sound. I love the noticeable power gains but with that vibration, I am not gonna' be satisfied:crying:

djpathfinder 06-11-2010 10:11 PM

Yeah, it definitely shouldn't sound like that (your youtube vid). We're assuming no damage was done to the exhaust manifolds or engine mounts while removing the stock cats? Did you visually inspect for any loose packing material/mesh inside the cats before installing?

Gunzero 06-11-2010 10:54 PM

That sucks man.. :/ hopefully you get your thing fixed. Mabuhay :D

Mike 06-12-2010 10:18 AM

i was talking about the brace that is in front of the back wheels. the pipes go over the brace.

We tried to shake the whole pipe including the hfc and it is pretty solid. Yup I visually inspected the new cats before installation, everything was ok.

No Mike, nothing is hitting against something. The hfc including the midpipe just shakes at just 1800 rpm. Other rpm range is ok though. As soon as I passed by at that rpm range it vibrates/shakes the pipes.

Zsteve 06-12-2010 11:56 AM

put stock cats back on and see if it still does it. If not then its the HFCs, return them and go with another company or get a new set. My ERZ and FI CBE are doing great.

esfourteen 06-12-2010 12:01 PM

^^ agree, if nothing is touching and nothing is loose its probably a defect in the hfc

I am also having an exhaust rattle, other than the hiss on decel. Its fairly similar and seems to happen more often in the cold. Im hoping its just hitting the cross member. I still need to investigate, however i have Berk cats not ERZ, and stillen CBE.

Mine, vibrates and shakes at exactly 1800rpm. The hfc and the midpipe next to hfc is shaking like crazy that you can feel it inside the car and shift knob vibrates at that rpm level too.

bradz 06-16-2010 05:27 PM

Update: My mechanic put the two vibration damper from the stock y pipe between the pipe from the resonator of Invidia and Hfc and it helps a lot. I still have a little bit of vibration but it is tolerable now.

Missed you at the last meet. I am interested in the invidia and would like to hear it. Lets meet up sometime.

ArtVandaleigh 06-16-2010 09:55 PM

Do you know where he got those vibration dampers? I'd like to try a set of those on mine, my Y-pipe has some serious vibration and hissing on the flex joints... been driving me crazy.

I was working that weekend when you guys had a meet, that's why I didn't come. I am down for another meet again. Invidia won't let you down men. For their price, you can't beat that. By the cat-back itself, it is not loud enough for me but when I put some HFC it came alive (WOW) especially at WOT. It's just perfect. Some folks here had a review about Invidia read those too. Here's the video with hfc.

You can't get those hiss go away men unless it is obnoxiously loud. Try to put those dampers and see what it can do. I am surely for sure it will help a lot. efuseakay answered your question  By the way, you can buy those online at Nissan parts
