Going back to stock intakes?!!

It seems like my Stillen gen2 intakes are taking away from the exhaust note. I even have HFC's and in videos (atleast) it sounds like alot of noise is from under the hood. Correct me if I'm mistaken but it doesn't seem quite right to me...I don't hear the gurggle of the VQ as much at WOT :( http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/...h_MOV03477.jpg

AK370Z 05-25-2010 10:47 PM

that's interesting because it sounds fine from outside. Any reason why you went with Gen 2 instead of Gen 3? Intake growl is a good thing. Just my :twocents:

I opted for the g2's becuz I'm afraid of hydro-locking with water intake of the g3s...seems too low to the ground for my comfort. I'm just a little disappointed that I can't hear the exhaust as well as I thought I would. Buuut than again..it's not the best video neither haha. Just wondering if any other intakes are better sounding or if stockers would make the exhaust more noticable

Gen 3 would have been my choice, it sounds pretty good from the outside, but the short style of the Gen 2's like that of the takedas will produce a throaty sound in the engine compartment under wot.

hydro-lock on the Gen 3 is almost impossible, unless you submerge the Z on a river crossing. lol

:iagree: If you can hydro lock Gen 3, there may be other problems you have to fix/repair ;).

I think your car sound fine. But if you want to go back to stock and see how things are , that's totally up to you.

On the side note, do you know any long stretch where I can make some videos? I like the place you're shooting your video.

Yeah, I shot the video in an industrial park in Swedesboro, NJ (South Jersey) Has a pretty decent stretch, has a nice curve but a few dips in the road. Also those daymned security cops. They haven't gotten me yet, but I get nervous haha. If ya ever wanna meet..let me know.

Yes, you'll be fine, If it was a problem we would of heard about from many Gen 3 Owners, the same with Ingen lntakes, I've driven in heavy rain here in cali with no problems.

Will it really be worth it tho to switch? I don't want to waste $600 or whatever it costs for almost no other gains

I don't know man, I don't think I'd push my luck with the Injen in the puddle :ugh:

It goes down too deep

haha... I exactly know how Sophia feels. It floods EVERYWHERE here! I was coming from NJMP track one day in very heavy rain, I had to tackle anywhere from 2" to 6-7" of flood water. I was driving through them like this :ugh:

There were times, I woke up 5 in the morning to move my car as my street floods (not because of rain but due to tide. I live next to the bay ) My worst was Z tires were completely under water as it was parked. This why I have the flood warning app on iphone and I park my car end of the street (if I see warning).

I'll check out the spot (maybe shoot a video or two with your Z) sometime in future

I haven't looked at the dyno results between them but I'm guessing Gen 3 produce a little more hp. Now I was only answering your concerns about the worries on hydro-lock, thats for you to decide if it's worth the hp gain, you can sell your Gen 2 to offset the cost if you decide to change. :tiphat:

No. If anything you can try the stock setup. If you feel that you want to go back, you can go back to Gen 2 (that you already have)
