Technical info on Z intake set up
 
Hey guys,

I'm a newbie here, so I may have missed this in an initial search but I'd like to know:

1. Is the Z OEM ECU tuned by MAF or MAP?

2. Inside diameter of the OEM intake tract

3. Does the OEM intake make use of airflow straighteners? If so, any pics posted with clear shots?

4. Along those lines, any clear pics of the dissamebled OEM airbox with details on vac lines or various VSV's?

Okay, well maybe this info isn't well known yet. Guess I'll have to tear apart the airbox myself :icon17:

2) 2.33 (at the MAF) 2.75 at the Throttle body

And just so you know:

Stock airbox temps are the same as LT intakes temps.

Drop in K&N filters flow 450 G/S. Im not sure if this is just one intake or if it is bo0th intakes together as this was read with a Cobb AP and it didnt say if it was reading one or both. I would think just one so double it for total flow which Im sure is way more than the engine needs at stock level with minor bolt ons.

The only thing the stock airbox cant give you is the LT bigger MAF section which is not really needed when tuned.

I'm guessing that would be for Both Steve, based on a well tuned 1.8 Turbo VW/Audi motor flowing around 200 g/sec. through it's single MAF

Prob so and Im pretty sure that they could flow more if the engine was asking for more. I wouldnt think that the intake and filters are choking the engine with 2 seperate intakes. Thats why I dont think people need to go out and get bigger filters on the aftermarket intakes like some have thought about doing. Other than bling bling I dont think the aftermarkets are worth it, but thats just my opinion as Im not one for dressing up the engine bay for bling bling.

^^^ Very nice project -- looks great! How has it worked out for you? Dyno? Driveability quirks?

Oh. what size filters do you use?

So no screen or vanes before the MAF sensor? Not even further ahead at the airbox opening? That makes life easier.

Varying the ID from 2.33" is definitely going to affect fuel trims and possibly also tip-in drivebility without tuning.

The wider tubing past the MAF sensor probably doesn't matter all that much as everything's clocked accoring to the diameter just before the MAF.

there is a map sensor on the car as well so it may be involved in some of the ecu's functions

Really? So one MAF sensor for each bank of cylinders AND a MAP sensor? :icon08:

Hmm. Tuning must be fun... I wonder how the ECU interpolates load from each sensor or whether it averages them... well the MAP will potentially make tuning for FI a bit easier...

No screening at all. Seems this particular Hitachi sensor works well without. The same MAF was in my '08 corvette with no screens either.

Custom MAF is now at 2.39" and fuel trims at about -2% which is way closer than stock.

I'm sure the bigger tubing past the MAF has a plenum effect.

On A MAP sensor that islow mentioned, i'm curious about that statement. It's not in the intake tract that I have seen. Typical on turbo cars. N/A cars that use them do so to balance out variances in Barometric pressure IMO..it may be somewhere.
