Interesting article in Import Tuner- short ram intake vs. stock vs. cold air
There's an article in this month's Import Tuner that dynoed various intake setups- a short ram, cold-air, and a stock intake box were all tested on a 350Z.
The findings proved what we already know- short ram intakes actually lose power. But interestingly enough, it didn't touch upon the intake air temp but rather the venturi effect and MAF readings for the various intakes. Scanned articles are below. |

Is it me, or are the scans simply to small to read?

Goes to show you that smooth air flow is good, my last car had a screen to defuse the air as the MAF was close to the filters. Thats why when changing anything close to the MAF can be tricky.

I just got done hacking up my Takeda SRI because they don’t add any performance, this article is right on. Just looks and sound from the SRI. So I just cut the Takeda Intake tubes to fit the stock box. I have two AFE Pro Dry S filters I plan on dropping in as soon as they are delivered. I have the Cobb AP the intake temps I was reading in traffic with the Takeda is just terrible, got it up to 178F when ambient was 91F.
Just did a test run with my hybrid CAI and all is well intake temps are 7-12 over ambient cruising. The Takeda SRI would run 20+ cruising. Here is a shot of my Takeda Stock CAI Hybrid. |

And once you have the high flow drop ins in you will get better throttle response and some hp. |
Nice - like that

Could always pull the boxes and do a ghetto drill mod to get more intake growl,
HKS do a resoably priced drop in dude, I ran them on my stockers with COBB post MAFS. ran good. |
The only problem with HKS drop-ins is for the price you could actually get the K&N and be able to clean it, whereas the HKS ones you keep having to replace as it gets dirty. I'm kind of on the fence for them also. I might consider the AEM units but I might wait to see what kind of proven power gains people are getting.

Got my drop ins for 70 bucks to my door, not soo bad - not sure on the expected life time on them, I do so little mileage it dosnt matter lol

You guys can also try these drop-ins... dry (not oiled like K&N), and reusable:
