Leaky y-pipe slip joint on Stillen CBE.
Anyone have any tips/tricks on getting the slip joint to seal fully? I've tried the u-bolt clamps that came with the system, as well as Easyseal stainless band clamps. No matter how tight I torqued the bolts down, some air/water still leaked through the joint. My main issue is with the slip joint on the y-pipe. When the exhaust is cold I can feel a tiny bit of air pulsing through, as well as see a bit of water dripping from the joint. When the pipes heat up however, they expand and it seems to seal up. Other than getting the slip joint welded at a muffler shop, not sure what else to do.

Only way is to weld it or put some high temp silicone on it. best way is the high temp silicone and you shouldnt get anymore leaks. I hate slip joints they always leak and its the cheap way to do things. |

I'm probably going to try and pick up some t-bolt clamps and see if those help. If not then I'll just end up getting it welded.

I was going to do the high-temp silicone, but then I found some hi-temp metal epoxy. Tried it out today and so far, I'm impressed. A little kneading to get it activated, then you have to work with it for about 5 min to get it to adhere to the exhaust slip joint. Then suddenly, it just gets sticky and stays where you put it. An hour later after I changed the oil, it was as solid as a rock. No way that bitch is gonna leak now.

I used hi temp silicon ( the kind with copper in it) It was very easy to use.. I just spread it over the entire joint and where the gasket would be.. It has worked great thus far..

Just the y-pipe. The rear slip joints seem to be ok. It's just the y-pipe slip joint that seemed like the flared end of the pipe was a tiny bit bigger than it should have been, making it harder to seal properly.

A common issue with Stillen CBE, (as well as any other slip joint exhausts) Bolted flanges with gaskets FTW!
We had a customer that replaced all slip joints with SS flanges once! |
