Default gutting stock cats

has anyone tried gutting the stock cats? i know this used to be popular with any cats that were bolton instead of welded from the factory.

also cats delete/gutted im assuming will throw a code. will the ecu change any parameters from this IE hurt performance/fuel consumption?

Just buy test pipes and keep your stock cats. If you gut them and you need them to pass smog or inspection you will have to shell out 800+ for stock cats from the stealership.

not to mention the material used in the cats contain asbestos, dunno bout you but i'm cool with not having cancer for at least another 40 years, test pipes are cheap, get em if you wanna go that route.

well i dont really have to worry about smog tests here. and asbestos causes cancer as much as milk, the sun, this that and the other does. just about 90% of the lubricants we use in automotives also "may cause cancer".

anywho. anyone know if the cel that shows up sometimes on the hfc/cat deletes if that actually hampers performance when its on?

Even if you don't have emissions where you live it would be smart to spend the $200 on some ERZ test pipes. At least you would have the stock cats if you needed them or you could even sell them on eBay and easily get your money back plus more.

except asbestos IS extremely dangerous. I remember reports of pretty much everybody who handled asbestos getting lung cancer since it **** you up pretty good

and danggit noone has still answered if the CEL actually reduces performance or if it just a warning about the ecu detecting the change.

Do it the right way and get test pipes. You'll be able to keep your stock cats in case you ever need them and you'll also gain more power from the straight through design.

no a CEL does not mess with performance it just notifies you of a problem

You should sell your Z and pickup a 91 Talon.
