Injen cold air. Waterlock prevention?? Everyday driving?

Default Injen cold air. Waterlock prevention?? Everyday driving?

I live in s Florida where we tend to have flooding and a lot of rain. Does the injen cold air intake have a waterlock prention or a bypass, I had a civic si with a AEM CAI and sucked water up like a straw in a foot of water and bent a rod... yes it was lowered...Is the injen better than AEM's previous reputation? What are peoples thoughts of knowledge here??

I also live in South Florida and have the injen CAI. You have nothing to worry about. Where the filters are placed and how far they are from the ground you will NOT have this issue, unless you go through like 1+ foot of water of course. But that would make you profoundly retarded anyway.

Infact, where Injen places their intakes is pretty much completely enclosed.

Thanks for the info... Yea I wouldn't go thru anything like that again. Well knowing that my intake is on the way and gotta pick out an exhaust that sounds nice, not ricy, was thinking about the stillen or the 5zigen. What are ur thoughts?

I actually ordered the FI TDX exhaust and HFCs myself. As good or better gains and much lighter than stillen's. Not saying either offering is BAD, but in my opinion the FI exhaust is a much better buy.

I don't agree about the intakes...I went through like 6-8 inches of water not intentionally, but forced due to oncoming traffic from behind....intake sucked it up like a straw and killed the engine....in the shop now hoping it's not as bad as I know it will be.

keep me posted..... i am looking at aem's new cold air, but involves moving the water resivior and the mass air flow sensors are down by the filter so im wondering if this technology will allow to go through water without actually sucking it up being that the mass air flow sensors are down by the filter, will it restrict the air flow automatically? I am very curious because i am only making that mistake once, its not fun to buy an entire engine block....
ANYONE???

Sometimes you have to buy the bypass separately but its only like $20.

Why would that make a difference? A sealed tube with a filter on the end is gonna suck in water if you bury it, no matter where the MAF sensors are placed.

right but my point is if the mass air flow sensors are triggered with water with the computer system onboard should restrict any flow into that engine or cut it off... with the sensors right next to the throttle body its already too late... my question is should i use bypass valves and how much power will be reduced...

as u can see in south florida we dont have great drainage....

They may, but by that time it's WAY too late....The suction of 3.7 liters at whatever RPM's is something you can't get around. Water ingestion will be almost instantaneous. The only way to avoid sucking water is to NOT drive into it..

i know this is not submersing the intake in water but....



the intake placement on my SC'd G37 is down by the fake brake vent with the cover removed and only a tranny cooler infront of it. I drove for 6-7 hrs through some of the heaveyist downpoors i have been in on my way back to Canada from Cali. this was during all the mid-west flooding. i mean i splached through puddles and was in downpoors where i could barly see. And no issues. So unless you are driving through 2 foot pools of water i really think hydro lock is of no concern

whoa whoa whoa, lets not be hasty now, might be lighter but they do dyno about 5whp less. You shouldnt have to worry about hydrolock man, just get em.

I was forced to drive through about 8 inches with a **** load of oncoming traffic in the rear and no place to u-turn....intake sucked it right up even when driving slow, car started jerking, died, and now engine is done PS water height looked just like that pic of the 40th z above. So be warned, all I'm saying. Just found out Injen sales some sock looking thing that goes over the filter which may help, but that's all I've found.....probably should go Stillen since it sits higher, or short ram air like Top Secret.
