Do my berks cbe tips look uneven?

4 Attachment(s)
I took the muffler off tonight and measured the hanger height and found the passenger side is 1/4 of an inch higher than the driver side. The uneven tips are beginning to bother me I hope berk can fix this problem for me. I PM berk on Tuesday and haven't heard back from them. They must be busy I will try calling them tomorrow before work.

phelan 03-18-2010 12:24 AM

get some washers?

Trips 03-18-2010 12:29 AM

If washer is all it is to fix? then by all means try it

azn370z 03-18-2010 12:40 AM

Haha I know the washer trick that's what I told weapon to try. But I would probably need 5 washers to make it even. He said he had vibration noises when he added nuts to level out his exhaust tips.

Trips 03-18-2010 12:42 AM

Have mentioned this to Berk?

I guess my question is 1/4 of an inch too much for the tips too be off? If it was off by a few mm I could add a washer or two.

I would guess yes, they should't be that far off once bolted together. So I'd call them or Pm them with the info and see what they say, who knows maybe you have a bent hanger?

g96818 03-18-2010 12:55 AM

my passenger tip is about 1/4" higher than the driver side and the passenger hanger is about 1/4" lower than the driver side, but it looked even when i tried to install mines

phantom21 03-18-2010 05:38 AM

azn370z, my tip alignment looks EXACTLY like yours. Height wise its pretty even. From what I see, it looks like the pipe bend coming out the muffler is too much causing the misalignment. I can't see anyway to adjust it out. But, if someone knows a way, please let us know.

Thanks,

Wes

imo these berk exhausts seem shotty at best.. wtf is going on with all these exhuasts not fitting...

thats how a 350 ebay exhaust should fit, not a quality product from a quality brand...

I see they are doing the right thing by the customers but this must be killing them as well as the customers as it seems like most of them are a gigantic PITA to get right.

Matt 03-18-2010 12:42 PM

You should change the threat title to:

"Do my tips look uneven to you?"

Might get a few more views! Haha!

It's not a Berk problem. It's clearly a UPS problem, they are beating the snot out them during shipping. Berk's problem is that they've never shipped such a heavy exhaust before, at least that's what they are claiming. They've improved their packaging, but if I were Berk I'd be all over UPS's azz.

IIRC, Stillen had similar isolated issues with their exhaust in the beginning. Issues, in my opinion, that were a little worse than insufficient packing and some bent hangers. Stillen fixed it ASAP, and subsequent buyers had nothing to worry about.

The majority of the BERK CBEs that went out in the last 2 weeks (mind you, these are the first few dozen systems EVER for this car) all went on without a problem. A mixup of 2 systems resulting in a customer with 2 driver side pieces, one really bad, warped system, and a few with bent hangers due to packaging issues are really the only thing we've seen.

M.Bonanni 03-18-2010 01:18 PM

Clearly a bent hanger due to shipping, which I know Berk is kicking themselves about, but I think they have learned their lesson. Good news is that it should be an easy fix. If you were to put a level on that piece of wood that is resting on top of both hangers, it should be level. Simply bend whichever end you want higher or lower until its level with the other end.

azn370z 03-18-2010 01:38 PM

Ok I spoke to Bryan. He thinks spacers will balance the height which I'm sure will work. He thinks another gasket will fix the left to right alignment. I have about 1/8 of an inch gap between bumper and exhaust tip. I'm not sure if adding a gasket will fix the gap because it's really tight. I will give this a try and update everyone.

Try slipping the handle of a floor jack over the hanger and using it as a massive pry bar. Or if you have the tools, heat up the hanger so its easy to bend. Or get a fat neighbor to stand on it.

Hahaha.. yeah dude.. i weight about 230lbs. That probably helped. Not an easy thing to bend even at the weight.

chuckd05 03-18-2010 03:29 PM

excuse me neighbor, I am looking for a fat bastard to help me bend metal.. can you help me out ?

LOL that is to f%cking funny :bowrofl:. On another note at 160 you cant move the hanger but shipping it by UPS did? Do you know how much force durring a drop you would need to bend the hanger, never mind it would have to be exactly on just the hanger. Think this through again! What you say Berk?

I'll speak for Berk. The holes in the shipping boxes were caused by forklifts. A forklift can lift a car. Got that? No? Here, this video will help explain:

yeah my left tip on my berk cbe was hella off. i didnt bother bending the hangars i simply bent the brackets that you mount the hangars onto. worked out great. the tips are perfectly lined up now. no washers or anything. i raised another car with a floor jack and put the bracket under and with vise grips held onto it and bent it to where needed. have someone stand on the other side of the jack too, it helps.

By bending the brackets on the car, didn't you lower the exhaust closer to the ground? :stirthepot:

So your telling me the blade of the fork lift just touched the hanger and thats it. OK got it now. Thanks for pointing that out.

No offense, but all your post in this thread have been nothing but stirring the pot.
Glad you got your exhaust from another company and happy with it, but no need to stir stuff up in another thread when you just look like an asswhole. Also, issues we are seeing are being fixed, part of it was the way Berk was putting the exhaust in the shipping boxes and the other half is how UPS handles shipments.

I really need to know what I said that was so terrible in my OP. All I was trying to say is, that you guys are blaming the wrong party here, that’s all. Why are you guys getting so offended. Then I get a lesson on fork lift operation that would be to the equivalent to picking you arse with it, have you guys ever even operated a fork lift because if you did you would understand that that statement is so farfetched its funny. Then I get, don't be offended and then you call me an asswhole (nice spelling). I just think you guys should look at how the system is manufactured that’s all. Enough said I won't post anything else so you guys can sleep good tonight.

Thanks spelling police.
Really, so you bought and had a Berk exhaust system delivered to your house and did a 1:1 comparison to a Fast Intentions exhaust? No offense, but Berk has already multiple times on what happened and it fits perfectly well. Guess what, the exhaust after the fix are coming in fine, glad you are finally leaving.
