Fast Intentions street legal?

Yeah it passed the Annual state inspection, we have the same that m4a1mustang mentioned. It wasn't hooked up to a sniffer but they give it the once over. I guess

I guess to put this to rest, yes your cat back exhaust should be 100% legal if you have stock cats. If you replace the stock cats with either HFC or a long tube header system you are technically not street legal. Long tube headers will give you some trouble passing inspection because it gets rid of your cats completely and any moron will be able to see that if your car is on a lift. The HFC shouldn't give you any trouble passing as long as it's not hooked up to a sniffer and your not throwing any codes.

Correct. Most states do have maximum dB levels for exhaust systems, so it's possible that a super loud CBE could be illegal, but you'll only get tagged for that if you're driving like a douchebag and the cop decides to get you for it.

PA Law is just a visual inspection. Cats are technically illegal to be removed unless there is something wrong with them, but if you have HFC's you will pass the visual.

I have had headers, hfc, and exhaust on my car for like 3 years now and have never had problems passing the visual (my car likes to throw cel codes though but that's a different story).

Oddly enough, though, it's OK for motorcycles to be heard from half a mile away going through their gears...

But I agree with your comment...unless there's some sort of "**** cop", most don't care as long as you are observed acting a bit crazy.

Yeah, I actually don't mind the motorcyles. Kind of necessary if you ride around in traffic.

Hehe, I don't doubt that at all. In fact, they all sound good. (well, except for the little 2-strokers)

My only reason for commenting was to point out how the Db level for motorcycle noise allows for a lot louder exhaust...a noise level if found on a car would merit a ticket.

Well thank you for taking an interest in our system! Street legal for the cat back is a Grey area. Will it pass smog, yes. Is is under most states maximum required DB levels, yes. Will it void your warranty, NO! Now everyone here is right, if you are acting like a fool and a cop pulls you over he can write you a ticket for a modified exhaust. You must really have to piss him off though! Most cops do not mess with these cars, they hate Honda's and other 4 cylinder Fast and the Furious crap. (Sorry not a fan of Honda's!) Our exhaust will enhance the natural sound of your Z by making it fuller, deeper and smoother. If people cannot appreciate the intoxicating sound that these Z's have then they need to plug their ears!!!

In a nutshell if you live by the term "there is a time and place for everything," you will be fine! In addition I sent you a PM a few hours back pertaining to this along with your question about the cats.

Do not hesitate to ask if you need anything...

Thank you, Tony

hmmm. interesting, wonder what dB ratings each state requires as noise? Does anyone know if they are 1/3 octaves, and if they are A weighted. Do they look at RC or NC curves over the sound pressure levels? anyone work for the state emissions?

i know in pa they do the smog test, it should pass. it probably depends on where you take it as to whether they look underneath your car.

You should be able to find this information online fairly easily.

You could just come down and register it in AZ lol.

They don't do ANY sort of testing... Crazy I know.

Just like how you can be declared Legally Blind, but get a Drivers License here...

Then just drive back to PA. I've done it myself, its a wonderful drive.

It is illegal for sport-bike owners to modify their emissions and exhaust. Exempt from modificatins are Harley's.....go figure!
