best exhaust for an S/C?
I know this is all in theory, GTM and stillen will eventually come out and give us the real info. Thus far I've installed GTM test pipes, other than the smell I love them no CEL thus far.
A lot of exhausts out there run different kinds of plumbing, we have thus far seen x-pipes, y pipes, and true duals. Which one do you think would work best for a supercharger setup? I know it would be a 2.5in but wondering what kind of plumbing you guys would run. |
True Duals all day baby, baby!
|
that means everyone who bought a system with an x pipe such as berk or a y pipe will be leaving out a few HP if they go F.I.
|
I'm not sure there would be much of a difference between a H,X,Y pipe design but I could very well be horribly wrong...
I figure if the difference in designs has been so minimal with NA setups then so long as pipe diameters remain 2.5, a SC shouldn't be that huge an addition to the equation and thus change the results drastically. But maybe the higher volume of gas might start to bring the mid-pipe designs into the equation more... I guess I'd like to see the answer to this as well.. ahha :D |
H or X pipe will offer the best flow for a FI setup, You dont want to be narrowing down the flow route from 2-1 Y pipe.

anyone know who is putting out midpipes other than HKS?

I'm pretty sure Stillen will be building their setup with their own exhaust, standard 2.5" diameter will do. I doubt the hp difference between 2.5" setups will be noticeable. Unless its a nismo, then you might lose power:icon17:

both SCs will work with all aftermarket CBEs out so far.
|
I know they will work, the question asked was what kind of plumbing would work better.
|
I think all would only differ by a few hp at the most, and after paying big bucks for the FI I dont think its worth the extra money to make up a few hp when you are already getting bug numbers from the fi.

Our true dual was meant for Forced Induction.

Back when I had my Mustang, we had to run a crossover to balance the exhaust pulses due to the firing order of the engine. X pipes tended to make a little bit more power than H pipes, but it was only just. |

Also, I have noticed you have made some anti-Y pipe comments in other threads... there really isn't anything wrong with a Y-pipe on these cars, either. As long as both pipes coming off the headers collect into a large enough single pipe at the Y, you're fine.
There are a lot of TT cars that run Y pipes into a single exit exhaust. Heck, all of the LS1 Firebirds/Camaros came from the factory with a Y pipe. |
