Broke exhaust bracket bolt
1 Attachment(s)
I broke the exhaust hanger stud/bolt that is 2nd from the back of the car. I was zipping it on quick with a driver and went to hard and yes I know power tools arent always the best especially with there these thin bolts but sometimes you get lazy. It's a nut that goes on to a stud/bolt that goes into the frame I didn't know if someone knew how to get the broken stud off because I can't seem to bang it off or turn it off. I know I could drill it and just replace it with a nut and bolt but was just hoping someone knew how to get it off properly so could put an oem stud back in and also where I could find an oem stud, can't seem to locate one. For now I'm going to metal wire tie the bracket up because I don't feel like drilling it tonight. Thanks

You can try welding a nut to the remainder of the stud, if there's enough meat. I assume it has broken flush?
Drilling and using an Ez-out would be next option. I would recommend the Snap-on kit (not terribly expensive) and it comes with Left hand drill bits. So you need a reversible drill. (drill may catch on it and spin it out) Not sure if the OEM stud has a seat on blind side of chassis. Meaning, it may be pressed in and has a hat on top. Kinda like a wheel stud. Wreckers probably be your best option for stud and experimenting. |
