Honest opinion for a muffler delete

I've been wanting to get a bit more sound out of my Z but I don't want to go all out on a full exhaust, knowing that will be too loud. I recently just got a muffler delete, and I'm shocked... I did not think it would sound this good. I was looking to make my Z open up to hit that nice "VQ tone" in the mid-range (2.5k-4.5k) essentially the GTR tone. And this muffler delete mod done just that. It is not obnoxious at all, it is a very good tone that opens up the car just enough. I even get an ever so slight burble when I let off the accelerator just right once in a while. I wish the Z's would come like that from factory. Defenitely recommend this for someone looking to start out on exhaust mods and doesn't want to go full out cbe.

That’s good to know, glad you are enjoying it!

Did you get a custom job done locally or use one of the aftermarket kits? If so, which one?

Thanks!
I got a custom job done at a local shop. The guy just cut off the muffler and welded on 2.5" stainless steel pipes as well as the original exhaust tips and it's done!

Wow. You actually like the muffler delete option? You don’t find that you have an enormous amount of resonance and drone inside the car? I guess I’m unique in that aspect. I tried both Remark and Beluga short tails and they were definitely not for me. The interior of the car was shaking itself apart and I still have ringing in my ears. Too each his own, I guess.
Enjoy!!!

I have the Beluga resonated short tails on mine and I can confirm. I have added additional sound deadening all over the inside of the trunk/hatch/spare tire well area, as well as lots of little strips of rubber tape anywhere that the plastic interior pieces clip together or contact each other in the rear of the car. My efforts have significantly reduced the amount of buzzing and rattling in the back and *slightly* reduced the drone overall, which is most prevalent around 3.5k rpms or so. I still do like the sound that the exhaust makes, it's only about 10,000x's better than the stock Toyota Prius-sounding exhaust that Nissan put on at the factory lol. Agreed with the OP that it definitely wakes up the car's trademark VQ engine note, and the burbles between shifts do sound good as well. I mainly got the short tails just to get some better sound in the meantime before I eventually get a full CBE.

I'm not a fan of muffler delete, but to each his own.

Do you still feel the same way about it? I just left my exhaust shop and that what he's suggesting I do. I'm looking for better sound. I don't expect a performance gain just doing the muffler delete. I just don't want it to be annoying and no drone (a little I can deal with).

A good quality video would be useful.

Well, you're ditching about 25-30lbs by removing the rear muffler section, and most axleback systems are less than 10lbs or so for both pipes combined (probably even less for non-resonated). So even if overall exhaust flow is unaffected, it is still technically a performance mod.

I went with the Remark V1 kits. Not sure the weight difference but it's definitely lighter than the stock muffler.
