Long Tube Intake Sound
For those who have the long tube intakes, rather they be Stillen or Injen, do you get an annoying whistle sound from them when accelerating? On my old Integra, my intake didn't whistle, but on my RSX, any kind of tubed, exposed filter intake made an awful whistle sound that annoyed the heck out of me. Many people like it or ignore it, and I haven't heard any talk of it on the boards here. I want to know if they do this before I decide to buy some.

Check for leaks. I have no whistle.

Um...no. No whistle here either.

No, I don't have one, but I am interested possibly. I ask because it is a common side effect on many cars equipped with them. I want to know if the Z does it as well before I look more into these intakes.

When I had my RSX, early on I got an Injen Mega Ram and every time I had to accelerate, the intake would "whoosh" and then whistle from 3k to 4k rpms, as do all intakes on all RSX's. I got rid of the intake quickly and got a Mugen box instead. |

A slight whril or woosh would be the proper sound - if your intakes whistle, I would check for leaks like everyone else suggested. Saying that to say you shouldn't have any whistling issues. :)

But yeah, a proper install with no leaks means no whistle. My Injen's have a mean, throaty growl above 3k rpm that I can't really hear anymore because of my exhaust. :shakes head: |
check your pm Mustang

My injen cai intake on my g35 whistled so loud people thought it was a turbo ... I just took the whole thing off and re-installed it and the whistle was gone. Its just a very small leak where air is sucking in and causing a whistle... start by removing and re attaching the clamps in the engine bay and carefully remove and make sure the maf sensors are sitting right. If that doesnt work, off with the bumper! and check the filters and how they are clamped on.

thanks for all the responses guys!
