Default Heat wrap Motordyne Longtube headers NEW! SOUNDCLIP WOW!

I just got done wrapping these headers from motordyne. I will spray them down with silicone spray tomorrow. UPDATE: 2/18/20 - I have removed the heat wrap! I have dropped the headers off at engineered applications in Vernon, CA. 2/21/20 - The headers are done! I had them ceramic coated in chrome finish. I am happy with the job done! NEXT STEP: I am going to wrap them again in heat wrap then spray them down with silicone spray to protect the wrap from dirt/oil, etc to preserve the wrap! I am so happy I did the ceramic coating after all this! UPDATE: INSTALLED 3/8/20

Moisture can build up within the wrap which can cause rust over time, better to ceramic coat it

My FI LTH's are ceramic coated. They still look clean after all these years.

Default Thank you

I did consider removing the wrap and have the headers ceramic coated. I was in a rush to get these done so I thought easiest way would be to just heat wrap. I appreciate all your comments. I have heard both pros and cons on both ways. I have watched videos of stainless steel cracking and becoming brittle from years of usage and all while being heat wrapped. I have also heard ceramic coated headers offer little to no heat dissipation but I do believe the headers were not properly ceramic coated. So, I digress that perhaps the best way it to ceramic coat then heat wrap. I have decided to not go a rush or cheaper way by all of your comments. So, I shall remove the wrap and contact local automotive shops specializing in ceramic coating. Thank you

Abunai, your build is coming along nicely, the last thing you want to do is "Rush" things. Take your time!! You will thank yourself for this in the long run. Look forward to seeing and hearing about the end results. Keep it going!

Default Ceramic coating

I found a company in Vernon Ca that specializes in correctly ceramic coating for exhaust headers. I set appointment for Tuesday. I知 off from work taking in the morning I値l ask for pictures to post. I have a choice of flat silver or chrome. I think I知 going for the chrome look.. secondly, I am still very much considering to heat wrap the headers afterward too! Is this silly? Hmmm. Thanks!

I've used JetHot on a couple sets of headers. The headers on one of my 4x4 trucks really took a beating in the dirt, mud and water. All of my bikes headers are coated too. Never had an issue.

The FI LTH's I have are coated silver by FI. I don't know who does their coating.

It's not silly. It's the right way to do things.

Nothing at all silly about heat wrapping the headers after coating. And if there is a difference in cost, I would just go with the less expensive finish since they are gonna be wrapped. That is, assuming there isn't a performance difference in the finish options.

Do you still have the infamous hiss/rasp with these headers?

Definitely. The headers make it more apparent.

Edit: Woops. Just realized these were the Motordyne LTH, which are one of the few I haven't actually heard. My guess is there will be hiss on decel, I haven't heard anything for the 370z that actually eliminates the hiss, but I can't say that from personal experience. Apologies.
