Test pipes is this normal?
 

I took off my old test pipes and they have some scratches on it and some minor superficial dents. Also, they looked like they got red hot at one point because they became blue near the part going to the headers. Is this normal?

Yeap, that would be normal. They get hot.

The whole point of cats is to get hot (400*+F) to burn off incompletely consumed fuel. The blue is a side affect of that.

You can easily prevent the bluing from happening - never start the engine. :)

What about the scratch marks and denting? You think it might have hit against the frame or engine?

I saw the blue and was like man they must have been cooking and wondering if that is normal for that kind of heat to be there.

That bluing is totally normal. And pretty.

No. Unless the TPs are improperly mounted, they are not hitting the frame or engine. The scratches and dents are most likely from misc road debris bouncing up and hitting them. Unless you only drive on roads that are perfectly smooth with no loose pebbles or anything on the road surface.

Despite the silliness, what you describe is normal wear and tear. Rocks, pieces of stick, pieces of road, all that good stuff. It has to match with the rock chips in the paint.

If you want to get rid of the bluing. Get them Jet-Hot coated or something like that. All of my LTH's are coated. Car's, bikes, trucks.

To add some helpful info regarding your question about the blue tint and heat, you can heat wrap your short headers and test pipes to reduce engine bay temperatures.
