Top Speed Titanium Intake

Has anyone used this intake? What are your thoughts? Any photos of it installed?

It's a warm air intake, there are much better options available that won't lose power: Stillen Gen3, Z1, Admin, etc

I'm not keen on having to remove the bumper every time I clean the filter. I'd rather build an airbox around a shorter intake like this one (or the Stillen G2, etc).

How often are you expecting to clean the filter?? I blow out my dry filter with an air compressor every 4-5 oil changes (that's only every 20-25K miles and with an easily accessible R2C CAI with a decent air box to block heat in the engine bay).

K&N (and other wet) filters don't need recharging but every 8-10 oil changes (assuming a 4-5K mile OCI). Dry filters are easier but I like to clean them about twice as often as the oiled filters. Mainly because it's so easy.

Not to mention the bumper is like 5 clips and 2 screws underneath and 2 screw by each fender. Takes about 5 minutes to remove and the same to reinstall. No need for jack stands or anything. Just my experience :twocents:

It's a bit more of a pain on the Australian model due to the pop up hood sensors and hoses for the headlight washers, plus I have DRLs so need to pull out the fender liners to unplug those as well.

The R2C looks like another good option to consider!

A bit more of a pain? So we're talking about double the time? Once a year? That's 10 min instead of 5 minutes :twocents:

R2C are good intakes. But they get hot. Here in Texas. And you're in Australia...

The filter itself or just the piping? What's the seal around the airbox like?

The attached photo shows the airbox in my old R33 which separated the filter from air in the engine bay and always kept the filter cool (lined with heat absorbent foam). I'm thinking of doing something similar, although the Z engine bay is obviously a lot harder to work with.

Well, the R2C filters are far and away the best filter (dry or otherwise) out there. Designed for desert military use.

But the piping is metal and gets real hot. The boxes have a gasket that seal to the hood and do better at insulating the intake air from the engine bay heat better than pretty much every other option out there aside from the stock intake boxes and true cold-air options with filters behind the front bumper.

I have a set of R2C filters I purchase for the stock intake boxes (the stock size filters were released several years after I purchased the whole intake kit). Due to the stock plastic material, I think that is a better way to go for performance on a budget. I originally purchased my intakes for the black nickel finish, which is beautiful and really set off by some other finish accents I have in the engine bay.

However, I am now focusing on performance and moving to autoX and track driving. So I have a set of Takeda intakes ready to go on the car. Could be talked into selling the R2C, but again, I don't recommend it if performance and cooling are high priorities. If IATs aren't a big concern and you don't beat on it in the heat regularly and like to show it off, then they are pretty sharp looking IMO.

Heat soak will be the obvious issue with these. They will sound more aggressive, but will most likely cause you to lose power. Since you're so opposed to removing the front bumper, I would recommend dropping in a set of K&N filters in your stock air boxes and then wrapping them (the boxes) in heat shield.

Just my $0.02

Decided to give the titanium intakes a go. Happy with the initial fitment, but needed to make a couple of small adjustments:

- trimmed a mm or two off the corner of one of the brackets to clear a bolt and improve fitment
- added an o-ring to the MAF sensors to ensure an airtight seal (the threaded section is slightly raised so there's not quite enough compression of the factory MAF sensor gaskets)
- will likely swap the throttle joiners for wider ones to increase overlap with the throttle body and pipe

Next job is to fabricate the air boxes. Working on the moulds at the moment, looking to draw air through the bumper and from behind the wheel liners with the rest of the box sealed against the bodywork to prevent engine bay air entering. May also add an air feed from the fang area of the front bumper, but undecided at this stage.

If anyone is considering this intake, adding heat shields is definitely worthwhile and brings the IATs close to ambient. Bigger K&N RU-3130 filters will also fit with a couple of mm of clearance to the radiator support.

Obviously going with one of the intakes that place the filter in the bumper is an easier option, but I’m happy with the result.
