Exhaust burble crackle pop

I will have fast intentions high flow cats and already have a Flowmaster FX catback, which has no resonators and a not very restrictive muffler. I was going to tune after all my boltons in a few months and was planning on trying to get a burble map.

Does anyone know if it is possible to have crackles or burbles (nothing crazy with flames and ear shattering pops, something that resembles jaguar f-types and M beamers get stock) off of a catback plus hfc? Is it safe for the engine and is it safe for the hfc?

(I know theres probably a few posts on this but I couldn't find any with the search tool)

Thanks for any info!

Plenty of threads. Try using Google in the future. Add site:the370z.com to your search string to specify only results from this site.

Whenever I want snaps, crackles, and pops I just eat a bowl of Rice Krispies :yum:

This post says it would probably destroy your hfc, I'm guessing because of the material inside vs test pipes.

http://www.the370z.com/tuning/127454...p-map-seb.html

Mine does it with EcuTek, FI CBE and TPs. I popped some minor flames before though but not always. I believe essentially it dumps some fuel and changes some timings to ignite. You have to get the car to a high rpm let off the pedal then gently re-engage the pedal just a hair though.

The reason I made a new thread is because im asking about hfc specifically, I know test pipes can do flames, crackles and pops but I dont plan on running them. All the links sent talk more about test pipes than hfc and I have already seen the threads before this thread. I cant find any real information on burbles with hfc... but thanks anyways.

It will decrease the life of the converter ("regular" or HFC). How much depends on how well the HFC is made, how much extra stress your tune produces, etc. Then there's possible fouling.

But if you're interested in "burble crackle pop," probably not enough to deter you. ;)

My buddy cracked his ppe headers at the flanged. Stupidest thing ever

Wolfys 12-18-2018 11:54 AM

^ If he cracked the headers he must've went for gunshots not burbles LOL I'm not trying to go anywhere near that!

If you say that the burbles reduce life, then how does bmw/mercedes/jaguar/even the new veloster N do burbles without any issues from the factory? I know they use turbo to do the noise opposed to my N/A fuel dumps but still, don't both end up being mini explosions in the exhaust which makes that crackle pop?

Stupidest ******* trend. Right up there with the Harley guys now.

They do have issues. But they are designed by engineers to handle those issues better than what some guy can do in his garage.

Don’t know which is worse...

The owners thinking their N/A V6 with heavy *** flywheels sound cool puking flames....

OR

The bystanders fascinated by the puking and took videos.

Yeah it's noticeably worse after I switch back from that mapping. I prefer my daily power map but occasionally some burbles and pops on the highway is fun.

that's scary accurate.

Mine will burrble and pop on down shifts. It only does it on down shifts. Letting off the gas does nothing.

You still have the FI CBE and long tube headers?

Do your headers have race cats? If so, do you get any exhaust residue buildup on the back bumper?

I'm catless. I get some build up on the rear bumper. When I wash the Z. I found that an all finish mag wheel cleaner will remove it. And it will also clean the exhaust cans too.

Luckily for some of us - the cats are in the cradle - I run 93 octane from the pump and one can of VP fuels octanium and get a mild pop upon decelration when it gets under 2500 rpm. Sound good not annoying

SteveVQ 03-26-2025 04:25 PM

These kind of tunes crack exhausts and headers.
