Default Do I need new gaskets for short tails?

Hey all,

I have just bought a set of used short tails that will be with me in a few days. The seller informed me that I may well need new gaskets.

The garage you fit it at will need to put on new gaskets or use a gasket sealant unless your factory gaskets are reusable.
My car is a 2017 Nismo with 5k miles on the clock. Can anyone confirm if I will require new gaskets or can I just bolt straight on? None of the install videos I have watched mention this

Thanks

You don't need new gaskets assuming your factory ones are still in good condition. I've changed my exhaust twice now and only changed the gaskets once. If you hear a leak, check the bolts, if they are tight buy new gaskets.

Probably not. Your existing ones should be good enough to reuse. How ever there's no real point to them with short tails because a small leak will not be noticeable to the huge unmuffled hole like 2ft further from the joint. gaskets (good seals) are a must when you have a point of restriction or muffling because a leak will allow for a lot of unruffled noise to escape and up front will allow for fumes to enter into the cabin area.

Is there any risk to an exhaust leak that far down the exhaust? IE could it cause any damage. What is the point of the gaskets so far down the exhaust before the muffler?, is it just to ensure all of the exhaust fumes go through the muffler first so it is not loud?

Gaskets are used that far down the exhaust because Nissan chose to have a joins in the OEM exhaust there. Regarding replacing the gaskets, I personally would rather replace them with cheap generic gaskets than risk having to do the job twice.

In the UK any exhaust leak is a fail on the annual test (MOT).
