Custom Short Tails Vs AAM?
Hey all,
Firstly apologies if this is a "noob" question or such but I can not say I know too much about exhausts. I like the sound of the AAM short tails, but the price not so much. Is there going to be much difference between the AAM Short Tails, and say a custom set of fabricated Short Tails by an exhaust shop at 1/3 the price? This way I can adjust fitment and tip size too? Does the AAM do anything special? Or is it literally just 2 pipes that delete the muffler? All advice appreciated. Thanks |
It's literally just 2 pipes that delete the muffler. I got a custom setup for a good price and am perfectly happy with them.

Any good shop will be able to replicate it easily.
Having them do the rest of the catback wouldn't really be that much more expensive either depending on what you want. Don't get crush bends like the guy's above me though. |
Keep in mind, axle back muffler deletes are not a performance mod, it's a sound mod. So if your looking for some sound and save a buck, don't worry about the crush bends.
If you're gonna do a whole exhaust then go for the mandrel bends. |
Mandrel bent, as apposed to most shops that just use simple pressure bender.

The AAM resonated and non-resonated Short Tail exhaust basically is a muffler delete kit. I would rather get the AAM resonated or non-resonated Short Tail exhaust as it would be easier than installing a custom short Tail exhaust on your Z and sounds great in my opinion and is a loud exhaust like I prefer.

AAM short tails have good fit and finish. The 5 inch tips look awesome with the stock Nismo rear bumper. If you want to "save" some money you could always get the stage 0 kit that comes with the Intake and Short Tails.

i had to go the custom route since there's no short tails (muffler delete) for FI exhausts. i only did so after getting approval from FI and got a spare set of FI tips to make it complete.
since then FI has made a few "FP Option" systems with no mufflers lol :tiphat: |
