Rear jack point

Ok, I am expecting my FI CBE on Wednesday, and haven't raised the rear of the car yet. Anyone know of a good jacking point in the rear (somewhere in

Default Rear jack point

Ok, I am expecting my FI CBE on Wednesday, and haven't raised the rear of the car yet. Anyone know of a good jacking point in the rear (somewhere in the center to raise the whole rear)? I hope to spray the bolts today/tomorrow, and just haven't looked. Let me know if you have found a good spot, thanks.

Have you downloaded the service manual yet? If I'm looking at it correctly it shows the rear diff being the rear jack point.

When I installed mine I used the diff as the jack point.

I used the rear diff housing to jack it up.

Then I placed the jack stands on either side, where there are two rods on either side going from behind the rear diff to in front of the rear wheels. Not sure what the rods do (probably stiffen the chassis) do, but the area looked pretty substantial and it didn't flex/give when I lowered the car slowly onto them.

EDIT. me personally, I'd jack up the front and put it on stands, then jack up the back.

Worth noting, be careful after you install FI exhaust with your jack if its a large jack like mine. Mine barely fits under the exhaust after it's installed. I almost lowered the exhaust right after I installed it onto the side of the jack and woulda screwed something up if I didn't see it first.

Also, i did the install with just putting the back on stands and leaving the front on the ground. It's possible, but its kind of a pain in the *** getting the cat bolts off.

All good advice, thanks. It is all lubed up and should be easier come later this week when I find the time. The diff casing is definately the place to jack it up (which is what I expected), but I did not see a good spot under the car for jack stands, so may have to use the oem jack points - not sure yet.

Kannibul, what rods were you using? I didn't see any rods that I would want to put the weight of the car on - saw 2 (sway bar and rods that go from the front of the rear wheels to the rear of the car (underbody brace?), and neither seemed like a good place. Anybody else have experience with jackstands in the back?

By the way, just for the few minutes I was under the car, I used these spots for the jack stands (as protection), just in case the jack failed. I didn't see any other spot that was sufficient enough, and not sure if I would use these for long term, when I actually install the CBE.

A good place for rear jack stands is on the silver suspension pieces directly below each rear spring. If you put the stand under the circle part (where the spring sits), you'll get some spring compression as you lower the car. If you move the jack stand toward the midline along that same silver metal suspension arm, you'll get less 'sag' as you lower the car onto the jack stands.

Yup. That's what I do. You just have to make sure you space them far enough apart so you can fit in between them during the install.

Interesting I thought about this, but was concerned about using that area since it will compess and flex and isn't a solid mounting point. With jerking around parts/bolts/etc, you didn't notice any movement of the spring, and then the car, using that as your jack stand point?

None at all... it's very solid.

But that doesn't mean you shouldn't put anything else under the car in case one of the stands fails.

I recommend removing that cross bar too. Every little bit of room helps.

Check your hardware before you start. I didn't have a single nut that fit correctly in my bag of hardware. We had to take a trip to the hardware store and buy about $10 worth of hardware to get it mounted.
