Anyone make their own Frankenstein CAI?
With all the different Cold Air Intakes available, has anyone made a Frankenstein setup taken from positive points of various intakes? I have access to the aluminum tubing, couplers, air cleaners, etc.. Band saw for cuts, a friend can weld aluminum if need be, what I don't have is a dyno, but really is it necessary?
I like the AFE setup, Admin's 3" has been said to give good gains, but would a insert help fool the MAF like AAM's does until a tune is done? Just looking for some opinions, you can only do so much with the routing of the tubes and couplers, positioning of the MAF sensor, etc. TIA |
Possibly, but you'd have to make an insert for 3" pipes. Also, going by your list, don't you already have the Admins installed? It kinda defeats to purpose to go backwards.
As for Frankenstein's, the most I've seen is us with the Admin intakes adding the Z1 velocity stacks made for the Z1/Stillen intakes. Could be more but don't recall anything beyond that. |
I don't have the Admin intakes yet, should be receiving headers next week. Everything else is had or in the works.

Why? There are excellent choices out there to be purchased.

IMHO you'll spend more money fabricating your own than if you just bought one of the OTS options.
Only two reasons I can see for fabricating a custom CAI is: 1. You really want to fab your own. 2. You've got a custom intake manifold/TB setup requiring non-standard routing. |
