Just saw another thread where someone was asking about putting in the FI LTH with the Motordyne XYZ pipe that comes with a cat.

Was wondering if anyone has done this. How much of the gains from the LTH would be diminished by adding a cat to the system?

bumping my question. yes inpatient

It may have been my thread from a couple day's ago. Every time ask that question I always get a reply with "Can't be done, LTH replace the cats" and I'm thinking to myself... "I wouldn't have asked the question if I had not found the solution and PRESENTED it very articulate english... :google:
When I get back from my tour, I'm slapping those bad boy's on.... or someone else. Demon bolt sounds terrifying.

lol yeah it was your thread I was referring to. And yeah I noticed the first couple posters said exactly that: you can't get LTH with hfc blah blah blah. Lots of people are lacking in the reading comprehension department unfortunately:icon14:

Let me know how it works out once you get everything installed. I may even get it done before you lol, just gonna wait and see if that new motordyne exhaust with the cat comes out soon. But I have also been looking for a nice y-pipe back exhaust to complete the set up if I end up going with the LTH and motordyne XYZ pipe. but the only nice one I have seen so far is that titanium amuse one which costs like $3k:ugh2:

Yeah, you just might haha. I could easily buy it if I were not funding the wedding. Once I know I'm in the clear and I'm back home, I'll be putting those on order and greasing up those bolts and especially that demon bolt. I'll probably get a base dyno done before install, then dyno after install, maybe give her a few weeks. I'm thinking I may need to get the ecu tuned as well with the changes.

just for some good news, you have have to mess with this " demon bolts" if you doing LTH's as you pull the factory manifolds and cats out coupled together.

For those interested, got to take Abby out for a few laps on a track, figured I'd post it here since that way for those interested in the actual metered volume of the exhaust, you have an example.

As tested, came in at 93.8dB.

bumping question again... would really like to see if anyone has done this yet

It will prolly be just as if you didn't even have it installed, since you're just relocating the same restriction. I really hope you don't spend the money for headers just to negate their purpose with a Cat in your exhaust. :ugh2:

SS_Firehawk 10-18-2011 06:50 PM

That doesn't make sense to me. You are still improving exhaust flow regardless. I can almost guarantee that a LTH with HFC will outflow testpipes and HFC because it is leaving the headers more efficiently. Granted the difference may be academic, but they will always come out on top.

Ok, so you're looking at spending $1500~ for 3-5 extra hp over a HFC setup?

If you're talking about doing that, save yourself some $$$ and get the Stillen headers and HFC's...

Do you really think a single high flow cat would completely negate the gain from the LTH? Maybe I am wrong but it looks like the LTH increase power substantially throughout the whole power range. How much would the cat on the XYZ pipe restrict air flow that it would cancel out the LTH completely?

The same reason there are 2 cats on the Z already... You're asking all of that exhaust to go through 1 cat. Unless you're talking a 3" pipe back... You're going to have a lot of restriction at the cat entry point. And that backfill will prevent flow... and thus, neutralize power. That's great that you get it out of the engine efficiently, but it's just like on the highway asking all of that to go to 1 cat. Back up is inevitable.

SS_Firehawk 10-18-2011 11:34 PM

It is a 3 inch pipe connected to a 3 inch cat. The hp loss from that cat in comparison to no cat would be minimal. Maybe a 3-5 hp loss at it's worst. I already ordered LTH's, I'll be getting the motordyne Y pipe w/ cat next month, and the CBE afterwards. It's a bit backwards :P but I got a killer deal on brand new LTH's and the y pipe is more than half the price as the CBE's. It probably won't be installed until Feb unfortunately because I'll still be out of the country till then. It will be like christmas... funded by me and for me.

And please don't take anything to heart because we both know our answers are hypothetical until proven. I also completely agree that LTH's are not worth it for most people and "similar" gains can be achieved going a different route. IMHO, nothing beats the sound of a nice car that has a full exhaust setup with long tube headers. That scavenging sound, the crackles, and burbles to my ears are priceless.
