That's only if the filter is over-oiled. With the proper amount of oil, I've never seen any gunk on any of the cars I've used a K&N filter. Unfortunately, they all come out of the box with way, way too much oil. I always let it sit out on some paper towels for a day or two to soak up the excess, and I've never had any issues.
