new air filters
I have a question about buying air filters.
I plan to order new air filters for my 2010 nismo, I checked my old ones and they look ready to be changed. My question is they look to be oem and oiled. Are they preoiled from the factory or do I have to oil them down? I want to order from "partsfornissan.com" they are $19.00 a piece. I am wondering if they come with the oil on them. |

I keep two sets of K&N's that way I can always drop in the cleaned ones and then take my time to clean/dry/oil the new ones and not have to rush through the process.

I used to use K&Ns in my cars, but after reading some poor test results on particulate efficiency/removal, and dealing with setting up the cleaning pan/solvents/drying time/re-oiling filter/removing excess oil, I went back to the OEM paper filters. Just didn't really notice a difference in performance either. YMMV

Interesting! They may have been oiled type filters in earlier Nismos? My '16 Nismo definitely has OEM paper filters. I checked them yesterday.

See if you can find a part number on the installed filters. Look up the part number and see if they are supposed to be oiled.

The stock Nissan air filters are made of cheap paper material and should not be oiled. Also the stock Nissan air filters are restrictive and will flow less cfm of air through them. A high performance air filter is less restrictive will actually add some power to your vehicle just depends on what high performance air filter you choose to install. I seen that the K&N high performance air filters and Green high performance air filters will actually add power to a vehicle.

Maybe they are just real dirty & appear to be oiled. The K&N filters have a red colored oil with a wire structure. They work great.

From what I've ever seen, if you have paper filters, they should be dry. Oily paper filters could indicate a sticking or clogged PCV valve. Oiled filters are fabric and wire mesh. Check out some of the test results online that show how much particulate can pass thru oiled fabric filters. Kind of scary. Thats fine dirt going right to your valve stems and cylinder walls. Just another thing to keep you awake at night
