Installing K+N Typhoon intake questions.
Hi, newbie here, tried the search and nothing could be found.
I am doing my first mod to my 2015 base coupe. 1. It mentions nothing of using locktite on bolts. Any advice? 2. In the Amazon review of the part a guy mentions replacing/removing PCV and venting with a smaller filter.. Thoughts? Thanks in advance, I get a ton of knowledge from this forum. |
The Typhoon is the short ram, right? If so, the best way to install it is to put it back in the box and return it for either a long tube CAI or panel filters and MAF tubes.

Jeez Chuck, how do you really feel? Not all of us are track guys, and want modest improvement. Constructive answers to my post appreciated.

I agree with Chuck33079 and BC416 that short-rams are a poor choice for the 370Z.
As for Locktite, I try to avoid it whenever possible. It's great stuff in the right application, but I haven't run into many automotive uses. Double-nutting and nylon-insert nuts work as well (if not better) and are easier to remove. If you do have to use Locktite, don't use the red unless you are sure you will never have to disassemble. YMMV |

2. I have not heard of this. I have mine installed as per the instructions. |
Yup, I totally agree with the rest of the gang that advised you to get rid of the K&N Typhoon hot air intake asap. You don't need to be at the track to enjoy and feel the HP gain of a long tube CAI. Your best, and most popular, choices are either the Z1 or the Stillen Gen. 3 CAI.
There are a few other options as well. Remember, the form search feature is your friend. |
Of course, you get to take the entire front bumper off to clean your filters...

I'm pretty happy with just my simple drop in k/n's and actually seemed to make a minor difference.
Put the $$ into the exhaust and/or a tune/weight reduction instead. |
Appreciate all the replys. I have installed and really like the sound when putting my foot into it. We will see about the heat in SoFla affecting things. I kept the factory set up in case. Thanks again for the input.
