AAM fails to stand behind their own products

So I've advocated AAM products in the past for their performance and perceived reliability. Well, today I'm telling you, they don't stand behind their customers or products, just their bottom line. I had purchased an AAM S-Line axleback from them last Feb. In April I deployed and the car sat garaged until March. When I finally drove the car, I complained of rattling. I took it to Fever Racing to diagnose. They tried adding washers to the exhaust flanges. It didn't work. Well, after I took the exhaust off, I noticed that the welds broke off both mufflers. There is a hole in my heat shield from the vibration. There is also paint damage from the exhaust tips hitting the bumper; presumably from the broken welds and additional vibration. This isn't the first time welds broke. After 2.5 months of ownership, an exhaust hangers broke off and I had both rewelded.

After talking with Tyler at AAM,he told me that due to buying the exhaust last February and not knowing the driving conditions over the last year, they can't warranty the product. Instead they offered to repair it for a charge. So needless to say, I told them in more than a few words I won't be doing business with them.

Straight of AAM's page. We can see how hollow this statement is...

"ETHICS
At AAM Competition the basic business ethic is carried on, an ethic of being honest, providing unparalleled service, 100% customer satisfaction, and a commitment to every customer who walks through the door."

The picture speak for themselves. This is a primary reason why Fast Intentions now has my business and I've literally sold or selling every AAM item I have.

After reading about how they bungled their intake manifold i'm not surprised to hear they're ****

I've seen enough similar threads to not want to do business with them. That weld looked like it didn't have my penetration

Doesn't really look like there was a weld between the two mufflers? Seems like the two mufflers should have been welded together directly carrying most of the stress, not that little piece of rod up there. Looks like there may have been something?

Nixin 05-16-2017 05:25 PM

Yup good idea to order your Fast Intentions exhaust, you will not be disappointed!

ScottM 05-16-2017 05:27 PM

Yeah I have welded for years and that weld didn't have enough heat unfortunately.

Spooler 05-20-2017 07:05 PM

Dude, don't you know not to take your stuff to Fever racing. You haven't seen the fiasco with the turbo kit and install on here. Good lord what a train wreck.

Dreadnaught 05-20-2017 07:18 PM

And why in the hell were the guys at Fever racing adding washers to the exhaust flanges? It makes no sense to me except to make your car have an exhaust leak and sound like doo doo.

DeliriousClam 05-20-2017 07:47 PM

seems their quality has gone downhill. They were fantastic when I bought my cat-back two years ago but now it's terrible customer service wise along with quality of work

It's genetics sir, not everyone knows how cold the water is when they urinate. :icon14:

Thanks for the post, no one wants to do business with a company that does not give a F. I certainly wont give them any business. Every time they deny taking care of a customer they lose repeat business and referrals. They don't care because they are short sighted and focus on the daily and monthly bottom line. Overtime however, their business will decline and they will blame it on anything other than their own stupidity associated with their historical crappy service...it a vicious cycle for business owners who don't follow basic business 101 which is take care of your clients first and foremost...

Sorry to hear about the issues. Unfortunately this isn't anything new or a shock to me. From what I've seen, they sound great but the fitment and craftsmanship lacks.

It was on the bolts, which don't make much sense for adjustment. You put washers on the hangers

I am happy to say AAM reached out this morning and approved sending the axleback for repair. Good on them. Just wish it didn't have to come down to this. I'll see if they plan on taking care of the bumper and heat shield, but one thing at a time. Im happy they're at least willing to step up to repair the exhaust. It's a small gesture, but carries significance.

Well, let's be real. They wouldn't have done **** had you not made this thread. They're just doing damage control, they don't care about a customer unless that customer makes their issue public. Their first response is what they should be judged on, not the backpedaling once they saw the number of views your thread got.

my fast intentions exhaust hangers broke off as well, i think its very common to see for these aftermarket exhaust companies. iv heard its happen to the same with invidia exhaust. i highly recommend replacing motor, transmission, and diff bushings to possibly prevent this from happening

What are we supposed to document our driving with AAM on a daily basis?

But you did have it installed for over a year and I can't find any sort of warranty or grantee information on their site after something is used.

"AAM Competition, LLC, at its sole discretion, may choose to either repair or replace any product returned within the warranty. If neither repair nor replacement is possible, AAM Competition, LLC will, at its sole discretion, provide a refund, company credit, or replace the item with an item of equal or greater present market value."

Not doubting your story nor am I saying it didn't happen to you, but do you have some images of this Fast Intentions problem? What did the gents at FI say and do about this?

I bought test pipes from them and they told me they wouldn't throw a CEL. I installed them and they threw a CEL. When I e-mailed them about it they basically said "oh well."

I have the FI resonated high flow cats and it's my only concern with the design as there's no support bracket. I've found at least two documented cases, on this site, of the FI high flow cats cracking at the weld. Both were in the same place. I check mine every time I change the oil.

I've gone so far as to order another OEM cat brace and plan on installing it with custom-made and welded on brackets to the FI pipes. There was a noticeable increase in vibration at idle after installing them. The vibration disappears just off idle.

It only took me a year to convince him to go with fast intentions

lmao it's because you keep going to track nights at harris hill. bumpy *** track....

my invidia broke at the midpipe hanger, but It may have been because there was no give with my poly exhaust hangers.

ScoobieZ 06-02-2017 04:40 PM

I have also noticed this as well with their quality. Fitment is a HUGE problem. The midline spipe hardly even sits straight through my exhaust. me and buddy tried many different things but couldn't get it to sit straight without rattling the rear. So there it sits, crooked. But it sounds decent, does what it's supposed. Welds actually looked pretty damn good on the aam piece I have.
