AAM Short Tails and HFC's?
Hello all,
I am purchasing some FI non-resonated HFC's and currently have AAM Short tails installed on my stock Z. My question is, what difference in noise will occur? Would it quiet the overall system down, or would it blare it like a wild horse? I know someone in my neighborhood had test pipes with no muffler and it was stupid loud, and I want to be sure what sound I can expect. The short tails are good but figured I'd go with HFC's for the small HP gain and (potentially?) deeper noise. Any input if you have or have had this setup would be appreciated as I am not sure what to expect. Thanks all |

I have Stillen HFCs and put on a set of short tails that my buddy had made at a local shop...it was insanely loud. LOTS of hiss, too. We took it out for a drive that lasted all of 5 minutes. I drove right back to his house and we reinstalled the axle back portion.
Here's a video of a warm start. |

Honestly OP you should just order a better mid-pipe instead of messing with the cats. I'm pretty sure the mid-pipe will combine with the short tails would be a nice set up instead of messing with the cats. I'm actually ordering the AAM mid-pipe soon to combine with my short tails. No matter what you replace the stock cats with you are going to get some hiss and A LOT of noise from my experience.

Aside from the Cats, the most restrictive piece on the stock exhaust is the Y-pipe. I'm with nick654 on this. Replace your mid-pipes. It will sound a bit deeper but won't make it stupid loud, as well as being a lot easier to install. If you find resonated mid-pipes that will free up a few ponies while also easing some of the rasp. AAM has already been mentioned, but I'd look into Garageline's X-pipe/Midpipe combo. It's reasonably priced and resonated. I called them in January looking for them and they were sold out, but the owner said they'd have more in stock by March. Thanks for all the responses. I have never sat in my garage while someone drove my Z so not necessarily sure about the loudness factor. Looks like I have to trust the lady to do a drive-by...
HFC's on deck to be installed Friday! |
