Default Few questions regarding G3 intakes and FI CBE....and LTH

Pretty new to the modding scene so excuse me if these are noob questions but I have a few concerns regarding my intakes and cbe which were recently installed. I noticed FI cbe's non-res are pretty quiet and are not as loud as seen on youtube and other vids, are FI just not as loud as the other options like motodyne, tomei, ark, etc? Which takes me to my next question, gen 3 intakes are known for their "sound". Is that only at higher rpm's because it's also pretty quiet? Also as for LTH, I'm currently looking at getting the most power out of N/A, I hear LTH is the best option because of the power you get at the top end yet almost all of the highest hp builds run the same set up, tomei cbe, Z1 headers, Tomie TP, and gen 3 intakes. I've never seen any of the top HP builds use LTH, why is that?

The high horsepower builds are TT and the LTHs are not compatible with a TT kit. They can be used in conjunction with a SC setup, but they are typically not making as much power as the high TT builds. Lots of info out there on both setups.

Loudness is more about the muffler, short tails will give the least restriction and with no muffler will be "loud". With a "loud" exhaust you won't hear any intake sounds. For power you can pretty much just get the Z1 400 hp kit with your choice of mid pipe, short tail, and tune. And if your feeling particularly bold an underdrive pully too but I wouldn't get one. Beyond that your getting into non normal mods with even bigger price tags.

Search will serve you well on your quest. Add site:the370z.com to your search string in your favorite search engine, and you will probably have better success than the forum search function.

Yes, FI is not quite as loud as some other exhausts. But rather than replace your exhaust, consider HFCs or TPs which will release a lot more of the lovely VQ note you seek. Of course, rasp and/or drone are more likely possibilities depending on your particular configuration. Or as mentioned above, you can dump the exhaust muffler for short tails.

No intakes are known for their sound. But yes, most aftermarket intakes start to get noticeably louder with lots of throttle around 4K RPMs and up. Note that drop-in filters and post-MAF tubes have shown nearly the same gains as G3s. And once you start stacking mods, the hp return diminishes even further.

LTH are expensive. The install is fairly laborious. The gains are pretty minimal. Also add the cost for a tune. Most people just go forced induction - spending money to top out NA hp is not cost effective on this platform.

I love my stillen G3 and stillen catback. The intake makes distinct noise but it's barely noticble unless you are going slow and paying attention. It's kinda a whistling noise, everyone in awhile I'll hear it, it's nice lol. I'm running HFC,headers and a catback and love the sound. Not too loud at all.
If you decide to go with the G3 know that you MUST put something in between the piping and the AC line on the drivers side. Eventually the intake will cut a hole into the AC line and cause loss of fluid which equals no AC lol. Stillen doesn't mention this in the instructions I don't believe.

I was referring to the high hp N/A builds. My bad, should have clarified that. Definitely not going forced induction as it's out of my budget.

Can short tails be put on a full cbe? Running FI cbe. As for the Z1 kit, well I already had planned on going Tomei TP, Z1 headers, Z1 modified manifolds, take it one step at a time. Hearing LTH could get higher numbers and better top end which I've never seen in any top N/A build just got me rethinking what I had initially planned.

I guess I just the answer to my above question on short tails lol. Honestly the main reason I picked the G3's over the cheaper alternative was for looks, and the supposed "noise" but in a bang for your buck standpoint I agree. As far as topping out NA hp, I mean 10-15k compared to 5 or 6k is a big difference. I take it the VQ isn't mod friendly?

It's just already a very efficient engine. Intakes, exhaust, TPs and tune are good value for sure. But the supporting mods for high NA hp are expensive and limited. Look up 1slowZ's NA build (edit* here's a link: World Record NA VHR Build).

I don't think it's that it isn't mod friendly, just that it already breaths pretty well from the factory. Some of the numbers FI folks are making with the stock block show the VQ is a pretty stout machine in its OEM form.

If my budget was limited, I would probably just stick to testpipes/catback and intake - or save the cash for a used stillen SC or something. Seems they go up for sale all the time and you could be modestly supercharged for 4-5k, with a path forward (air-to-air intercooling, fuelling upgrades) for more if you wanted in the future. I have also seen used BP kits go up for sale in the 5k range.

Generally no, can't mix full cbe with a different axel back. If it were me and cost effency wasn't an issue and I wanted the most NA HP I would do:
Stillen G3 CAI
Z1 manifold
FI LTH
AAM 2.5Mid pipe
AAM Resonated Short Tails
Ecutek Tune
But that's my opnion.

Just skimmed through his build good lord.....I wonder how much he spent on it. But yeah I guess it does make sense that the engine is already an efficient engine stock. Funny thing is, I've never once seen vq37hr advertised as a good engine. It's always 2jz, ls1, k20, n54, etc etc...

How reliable is a Stillen SC? Last time I looked into their SC's they were giving people issues.
