Default Long Tube Headers (N/A application)

I am looking at getting long tube headers for my Z and I am deciding between the Fast Intentions LTH or the Motordyne LTH. Currently I have the Motordyne M370 catback exhaust. I want to know which one is better for making power throughout the rev range and not being too obnoxiously loud. I am not planning to have straight pipe levels of noise. Thoughts? Comparison pics? Dyno numbers? Personal experience with either?

If you're worried about noise, motordyne offers their headers with their nice resonators similar to the ART pipes. Believe both headers should make the same gains. Think someone on here has the full motordyne set up w/ headers and dyno'd 328.

If you don't want to be loud go for motordyne with either the resonators or hfc extension. I have it with resonators and very happy with it. As far as power, I can compare it with another one which has nearly the same setup on the same low reading dyno, different days, 95 RON gas.

Mine: Stillen G3, Fast Intention TDX 12" res and motordyne lth
Before 268whp 230wtq after uprev 300whp 260wtq
My friend: Stillen G3, HKS Hi power, Fast Intention LTH
Before 264whp 213wtq after ECUtek 294whp 236wtq (his car was test car for ecutek)

I like both, fast intention and motordyne, such quality products and wouldn't go wrong with either one.

And another note, the drone has been reduced a lot after the motordyne, I had FI nonres hfc before. There was noticeable drone, butdidn't bother me as it is a weekend car. The helmholtz resonators doing amazing job in reducing drone, and even the car didn't become louder than before, not sure how load under full throttle.

But be warry of installation cost, I wouldn't recommend lth unless you want to go full na boltons.

I have the FI LTH's and love them. Any LTH will be louder. I have a drone about 2,000 to 2,800 rpms.

Makes sense to use Motordyne since you have their catback. If you don't mind mix and matching, then you have to consider PPE.

For you guys running the Motodyne setup, are they a straight bolt up? I was looking at the FI LTH for my 15, but I was told there is some mods to the coolant system to make those fit. I contacted MotoDyne earlier this week but have yet to hear back so some first hand experience would be great!

You planning on installing the LTH's yourself?

I'm in love with the FI LTHs. Sounds great and fantastic power combined with my exhaust. They do have some drone at low RPMs. No problem, just keep it at the redline!

Good plan, I think you should look at throttle body + lower and upper intake manifold, as they should compliment each others

This should give a good view of how it would sound

What I am getting into? hmmm....a little background on me:

While I haven't felt the need to re-certify I was an L1 Master Certified Tech, been wrenching professorially since 1995 (other than a 4-year stint I spent serving my country and another 3 year spell I used to get my BA in History), and currently a shop foreman at an independent out in VA. Some other personal exploits entail a pretty extensive set of mods to my old 98 cobra (Complete GR40 suspension install, Supercharger install at one point, NA 11:1 F/S engine build, setting up a dual runner intake on it, and tunning said mill) and I've also worked on everything from Honda Civics to Bentley Conti GTs to include a power plant pull on an RS6.

So, yeah. I think I know what I am getting into. That being said, I would like to know if the Motordyne require modifications to the coolant system on my 15, as the FI setup does.

Lastly, thank you for your concern and for the heads up that it might be a slight PIA. I wasn't expecting it to be a walk in the park.

Good for you. Most people who do the LTH's don't have your background. So the right side should take you about 40 minutes, and the left side about 3 hours then. The heat shield on the left side exhaust manifold is a PITA to get out. The steering shaft may give you a fit when reinstalling. The joint is key-splined, so it only goes on one way. The issue is there is a sensor ring on the rack input shaft. If that gets moved. You might have the slip light on the dash to come on.

I don't know about Motordyne LTH's.

My background. Used to be ASE Cert Master Tech too. Cert welder. Degrees in crimmeral justice, welding engineering, and mechanical engineering. Built, maintain, and ran a natural gas fired combine cycle power plant. Retired from there as a CRO.
