Stock 370Z Exhaust vs Nismo - Newbie Question
Hello, everyone. I've been lurking for a while, but haven't really posted yet. Great forum, lots of info.
My wife's daily (and my once-in-a-while autocross machine) is a 2009 370Z Touring, and it's a great car. I recently had the opportunity to pick up a full low-mileage Nismo exhaust (cats and all) from another local Z owner, and I took it. I'm going to be honest, other than the "Nismo" tail pipes, I'm not really sure if there is a difference between the two systems, which is why I'm here. I'm not scared of a wrench and will be installing this myself, but I can't seem to find anywhere where someone compares a 370Z base (or touring) exhaust to the Nismo setup. Is this because they're the same thing, or because no one really upgrades a stock 370z exhaust to Nismo? Again, it's the wife's car, so a little more definition and a little louder would be great, but we're not interested in anything too loud, and the price was right. If it were my daily it would be a different story, but there you go. Any insight anyone can lend would be helpful, thanks in advance! |
Not many people upgrade to the Nismo, it is an upgrade from base, but there are a lot of aftermarket exhausts that are better than the Nismo so most people go that route.

I changed from the base Y-pipe to the nismo H-pipe and there is a difference. I have muffler deletes cuz i like loud. But the H-pipe does pick up some power compared to the Y-pipe. Don't bother changing the cats, they're the same.

only difference is its dual

Thanks for all the info! Good to know the cats are the same, I'll leave those alone. Thanks for the thread link too, I did look around, but didn't see that one. Even with minimal performance and sound gains I'll do it anyway. $50 for 5hp isn't a bad trade all things considered, and I'll be able to say it has duals instead of the Y pipe and Nismo parts. Works for me.
