I should have specified, it's the fastest track Evolution X in Japan currently. Posted a 59.495 second run around Tsukuba on street tires which is needless to say, amazing. Heres the link for anybody interested.

BUMP for anyone with dyno numbers on this HKS intake. One of the Vendor's mentioned in a thread that this set-up nets 8-10 whp gain???

I can't see it gaining nothing. Even replacement intake hoses and a K&N drop-in will give you a few hp (likely not even noticeable) and improved throttle response. The price is excessive though. HKS or not. Then again, there are true honda/acura enthusiasts (not ricers) who pay through the nose to have all Mugen or JUN parts on their cars and they swear by them (the quality is amazing for those manufacturers).

To each his own....I just saw a thread with pics of a 370 on spinners

I think some people feel the need to justify their choice of brand to satisfy their personal doubts about it. They need to feel superior to make themselves feel better by pointing out their brand choice produced more HP than yours. Which ultimately justifies why they spent the money they did....I'm just saying

And in case anyone wants to know I went with the bargain choice, HPS tubes and K&N drop-ins. It cost me a lil over $200. HP gains? I'm not sure....

EDIT: I forgot to mention the HKS intakes look awesome! I had it in my 350 DE.

Quite a battle going on here~IMO SRI gives u throttle response and CAI gives u high-end hp. Name brand or not doesn't really matter as long u get what you want it from the products, it's all good brand. Some people like actual performance gains, while some people like the bling and hiss. It's all up to each individuals to judge whether or not it's worthwhile. I myself don't like doing any mod to the audio system to my car, but some people like their car sounds like a boombox. I'm not gonna call a fail on them cuz that's something they put their time and effort into. Everybody has their own taste of modding. Let's not judge or call out other fellow Z owner.
Anyway I really like how ur intake turns out. Like many said I'm little worry about the heat soaking around the filter element. Here is an idea for u~just get another same diameter pipe about 1'-2' long of the right bend, connect it with rubber silicone hose before the filter. There you got CAI with the sound u want it.

Those filters flow really well but their actual ability to filter anything really blows. I read that you can actually use k&n oil on those foam filters to help with the filtration and keep them from drying out later and getting sucked into the motor.

Wrong -- gain is the same or more as any aftermarket intake at various points in the rev range.

Believe it or not, the OEM set up actually works really well with high flow panel filers and smoother tubes, as it already draw in cool air from built in bumper ducts and has excellent heat shielding.

There are several dynos on here that confirm solid gains for this set up. The gains are not negligible.

It's a matter of preference. 17.5 whp gain (dyno from stillen site) on the stillen for $500 + bumper removal and dremeling vs less than 200 for hoses and drop ins that may give 8-12 hp. I'm starting to re-think my stillen purchase plan...

Also I've been watching some youtube vids of time attacks and a lot of tuners have also stayed away from CAI's and used just hoses and filters.

Those are even more expensive and it is pretty much a "bling" and JDM factor.

Same here. I just don't see $300 and an hour or two more work is worth the 5-9 HP you MAY get with the Stillen over the drop ins with the HKS smooth pipe. Thats a lot of money per HP when you do the math.

Of course, when it was all said and done, I just paid about $350 including installation for an under-drive pulley that might get me 5-7 HP.
