New guy, exhaust question

I just bought a 2017 base and have a couple questions... I love the car... LOVE !! ,but I'm looking to make it more appealing to my ears, i'm more than satisfied with the stock performance (over 45 yrs old :)) but would like to know what the cheapest and easiest alternative to the stock exhaust system is.... I don't want to get into any tuning stuff and was not looking to change the intake system or anything else, just a better sounding exhaust note.... Ideas ? Perhaps somebody else was looking for the same thing I'm looking for and achieved great results I love to hear from you :)

You need to ask yourself if you want "loud" or a good exhaust note. I wanted good exhaust note with a little loud. So I went with Fast Intentions. Love it!! And here recently I wanted to go louder sense my car is a weekend car and not a DD so I took out the cats and installed Test Pipes. You will not need any tune or anything, good rule of thumb is you need to do 3 breather mods before a tune. Good Luck..

Also a used Fast Intensions set up will run you $800-1100. Or the absolutely cheap option is to pick you up some "short tails" But ill warn you its extremely loud and to me sounds like a bag of as* holes... But hey its your car...:driving:

If you're not concerned about performance, look for axle back systems that are a lot cheaper and can add some hp. check ebay. or search "axle back exhaust, 370z.They sell a ton of systems out there! Good luck and enjoy!

I would suggest a cat back system from either fast intentions, motordyne, or Ark. I personally went with fast intentions because it was the best combination of power gain, sound quality, and price. The ark is the deepest in sound and its a great sound. It's doenst have as proven of a record for power gain over the others but you said you don't care about that. The motordyne sounds incredible but it's the highest price and maybe a bit harder for you to daily if your not looking for something as in your face. The disadvantage of the fast intentions is about a three months wait because they are custom built to order to your specs. It will be easier to find a used fast intentions setup because they are so popular. I would recommend getting together with your local z club and actually hear some of these. Let the sound, in person, make your decision. Also call fast intentions and speak with them about their setup. They will be happy to speak with you and I've never seen a company with more care for customer services than them.

The easiest, least involved, least expensive would be muffler delete short tails.

Fast intention exhaust used for sale now by forum member topgunz...no wait.

I suggest a resonated axle back, check eBay. For me, Short tails, non resonated, are too loud.

ChopsZ 08-15-2016 11:29 PM

I don't get it. Everyone says the short tails are loud, and they're not. If you're still using the stock cats and stock resonated mid-pipes, adding short tails does NOT make the exhaust loud. Yes, it's louder than stock, by a large margin, but it's not loud like a straight pipe or open headers.

Hell, my brother's bone stock Fiat 500 Abarth is louder than my Z with the short tails.

Invidia gemini is what I just bought. Less expensive than some, excellent fitment, barely louder than stock at idle and cruising but a good rumble when you step on it. Sounds much better than stock.

I recommend gthaus meisterchaft full exhaust, excellent sound

Is the system you're talking about just a replacement for the rear section after the axle or do I have to do a complete switch over to go with fast intentions? I think from what I've been reading that axle back is what I'm interested in and I'm looking for what would provide me with the best little louder than stock sound I'm looking for a nice throaty, exotic sound, need the car to sound a little bit more like it looks

the washer mod

If you want an easy way to alter the sound without spending $$$ on a full catback, look at AAM short tails. You can get them resonated or not, to help discourage drone at certain RPMs:

AAM Competition - Nissan GT-R, 370Z Turbo Performance Specialists

The cheapest way to do it is to go to your local muffler shop and ask for a muffler delete. They should have exhaust tips you can chose from as well. Would cost about $150. However, if you're sold on getting brand new name-brand parts, scroll down to the Marketplace section and check out the Sponsor Classifieds 'Exhaust/Intake' area. They'll have what you will need for great prices.

I'm in the same boat. I'm happy with the performance, but would like the car a little louder. I'm looking into just the GT Haus Meisterschaft GTS axle back. It's far from cheap, but has a very nice sound. I don't know how just the muffler will sound on an all stock car.

I've read that a full cat back system can cause noticeable power loss in the low to mid range without any other breather mods. I'm trying to avoid that by just upgrading the muffler.

I've always wondered, those of you running the short tails and/or test pipes, what do you do about emissions and inspections? Do you just swap everything out each year or are your states more lenient?
