Fast Intentions 18' exhaust - too loud
Hello to all,
Im using FI exhaust with 18 resonators. After two years and 30000 miles im tired due to loudness and little drone. Its too loud for me - mostly between 1800 and 2800rpm ( very loud and deep tone ). I decided to switch to more quiet and drone free exhaust but I dont want to put OEM back. FI has some really nice gains. I have done some research and found that HKS Hi Power should be good option for me. Has anybody heard FI and HKS and can confirm that HKS is more quiet and drone free? Or maybe there is better option? I wanted OEM Nismo CBE but its impossible to buy used one in Europe. Sorry for my English. Regards, Chris |
I had the same FI cbe #95 and after 5 years
I got the HKS, it's really quiet up until you get to 4k then it comes to life. I took a trip from Southern California to New Mexico and the whole way it was nice low tone with absolutely no drone what so ever. It does not sound totally quiet at idle like the stock exhaust so imo a good alternative choice for a more performance without the sacrifice of drone or raspy exhaust. I do have hfc's btw so it's will be more quiet and feel less responsive if your on stock cats. |
Other then stock and nismo i dont know about anything quieter then fi 18 inch
:confused::confused: |
Just crank up the music, it will mute out the exhaust.

had FI 18" for a month, too loud and droning in that rpm range, got stock Nismo exhaust and all is good.

Having had a few custom exhausts on a few vehicles, I understand drone and how subjective sound is to different people. On my nismo, first I swapped out the OEM cats for Berk HFCs more really more for performance than sound. Still, I did think the OEM nismo exhaust was way too quiet. Looking for a simple solution, I installed the TopSpeed axle back. This sounded incredible...many different notes available depending on gear and RPMs with a great burble thrown in. Problem was in the cab just too loud. I could never just relax and drive- it was always loud. Maybe like your FI? This may also been because I had the Berk HFCs? Read here on the forum about good experience with the CNT Racing cat back. They said zero drone (even with test pipes) and showed pictures after three years which still looked like new. I now have this installed and like it. Even with the HFCs, NO drone and driving I can make it relatively quiet or get on it and make it loud. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the hiss or whatever you call it that comes along with having the HFCs. Not a big deal. Nothing against any other exhaust brands, just my experience, in case it helps. Also, here is link which might be interesting to you: http://www.the370z.com/intake-exhaus...w-w-video.html It looks a lot like the HKS with the helmholz cannisters to take care of drone. Good luck with your search! |
I definitely miss my cnt exhaust

Do like the idea of the HP increase and a little deeper exhaust note. |

My FI exhaust should be arriving in the next two weeks. I ordered 12" resonators with CF mufflers. I'm hoping it won't be too loud with the stock cats. But honestly the "Z" is a sports car and isn't expected to purr like a kitten. And maybe the added exhaust note will drown out the road noise?

Thanks for all replies.
I will try to find HKS, or Nismo OEM. CNT is not available at this time. I can sell mine Fast Intentions exhaust with 12 and 18 resonators to someone from Europe. Shipping to US will be probably very expensive. |
I'm not sure if you will go this route, but if you add turbos they will stop the drone.

Tanabe is another choice if you want a quiet exhaust.

Honestly, I love how loud my FI 18" exhaust is. That's sort of why I bought it in the first place.

I think you all may need diapers. I have lth on a 12inch res and its way to quiet
