Axle back exhaust ?

So far i see 4 different types of axle back exhaust for the 370.
Aam short tails
Beluga axle back
Stm axle back
Top speed

Anyone installed or heard these ?

You must have missed AAM's axleback S-line muffler. Its on their website.

Most of these have been discussed 4,000x on this forum, if you search you'll find a lot of info on axlebacks and short tails.

bhandy 05-26-2016 09:01 PM

I think since I want more I'm gonna go large and get the short tails!

Brendan 06-01-2016 10:49 PM

fwiw aam now has a resonated version of the short tails that sound awesome.

Zoom370z 06-02-2016 01:37 AM

Ok so i just got my beluga resonated axle exhaust, it has been installed i must say it very deep and a little loud at idle. When I press the peddle wow it is loud, and when I floor it OMG .....it is crazy loud all in your ear and the sound bounces off of cars and buildings its a big head turner and can be intimidating when behind cars on roads or highways. I think its to loud for my taste, but it could just be loud in car and not very loud outside of car ? But then again I do have hfcs. I need someone to drive my car so i can listen how loud it is.

Tanabe
Megan racing

This is exactly how the S-Line Short Tails are. I just installed these today (well yesterday now). The entire car is stock and the Short Tails give it a wonderful mellow tone, not too loud at all outside. The cops would not bother you all with this axle back if the rest of the exhaust is stock.

However, it's quite loud inside the car to the point it's making something within the plastic interior panels vibrate and rattle. Now I need to hunt down these rattles and figure out a way to damp them.

Zoom370z 06-12-2016 11:13 AM

I took off my beluga axle back and just put in my original exhaust back in with the washer mod now it sounds good, instead of using 4 washers i did 6.

I would either put the Beluga back on or leave the exhaust completely stock rather than do the "washer" mod. That sort of mod is too much of a teenage ricer or redneck type thing to do if you ask me.

It reminds me a kid I knew back in high school that took a large screwdriver and a hammer to punch a bunch of holes in his Ford Escort muffler to make it sound "cool"...

Jimbo370 09-18-2017 08:30 PM

why are they all so expensive? does it really matter about the welds. who is looking under your car? Still looking for 1 in the $400 reasonable range.:ugh2:

I just ordered the AAM s-line axle back(the one with mufflers) for my stock nismo exhaust.Hoping it will give a little more growl to my Z but still be easy on my old ears.

This is the one I was thinking of getting. Looking forward to your thoughts and comments. I made the mistake of getting Beluga short tails a while back and they stayed on the car for less than a day. Horribly loud and the resonance and drone would make my ears bleed. Took those off and sold them. I'm now hesitant to try anything else.

I got the AAM axle back muffler installed.Pretty much sounds as I expected, just a little louder without getting too loud.It doesn't have any funky sounds at certain rpms or pops or crackles which I'm happy to report.Overall I would still term this axle back with the nismo exhaust to be quite conservative. The big plus for me is the tips look great with my base 370z and the nismo exhaust, fit and finish is great.

I pulled the trigger on the beluga axle back for the nismo...i'l report back with details once it's installed

EDIT: ffs... just saw the date on this thread... holy necro - sorry feel free to delete admin

I have heard the aam shorttails on aam HFC and Berk HFC and Berk test. Nice throaty sound, def a rasp on test, bit of rasp on Berk HFC, and a bit less on the AAM HFC.

I'm 42, daily driver, and want a lovely tune on WOT but sleeper type on normal. I chose Fast Intention setup. Went with resonated HFC to eliminate the rasp, and then opted for the 18" resonated TDX cat back (over 12") for a good solid deep soundtrack, and added the carbon fiber for the looks against a Gun Met paint job

I have heard the 18" TDX with test pipe and absolutely loved the tune, but rasp and drone annoyed me. I would really put the FI cat back against any tune out there, save ARK GRiP with I think has a slightly better low sound, but also doesn't really honor the stock VQ note.

These are all personal preference statements and to be accepted accordingly

Get the Meisterschaft exhaust if you can swing it. The quality of the Meisterschaft exhaust is top notch though and sounds great!!

I have a question for the cats..I tried to find answer already, but can't find one
have anyone actually tried just poke-ing the original ones, and making them fully open?

basically you get the test pipe out of the original one..
