FI CBE - 2015 Nismo

I inquired FI about the fitment of the pre-15 CBE on my 2015 Nismo and was advised that the fitment had to be adjusted by 2.5" to accommodate the larger Nismo bumper. Does anyone have any pics of a 15/16 Nismo with an older FI CBE installed? Looking at purchasing locally but I want to be sure on the fit before committing.

Thanks!

So you have a sport/base model exhaust?

TerribleONE 05-13-2016 02:40 PM

It will work but it isn't going to look right IMO. Maybe ask FI if they can build you a new axle back portion and sell the mufflers to someone who damaged theirs or still have a V1 system?

If so, this is what a sport FI exhaust looks like with the new Nismo bumper.

I don't have the FI yet, just trying to do all the right research pre-sale. As @terribleone suggests, I'll see if they can fab just the axle back.

cooltoy 05-13-2016 02:45 PM

I thought they already were making exhausts specifically for the new Nismo.

That's just what I was looking for actually. Definitely looks a bit tucked in vs stock. Seems like there might be issues with build up since it doesn't exit behind the bumper. Had any problem or noticed anything?

Yea they are and sent me pics. I just have an opportunity to pick up a non-nismo setup locally used which would definitely save the bucks and wait time.

cooltoy 05-13-2016 02:49 PM

So the picture I posted, gives you the idea of how it would look.

TerribleONE 05-13-2016 02:50 PM

I wouldn't do it unless you order a new axle back setup from FI and sell the original one. That really looks bad IMO :twocents:

Can't tips just be extended at any muffler shop?

Thats an interesting idea, I have never asked.

TerribleONE 05-13-2016 03:44 PM

Yea I am sure it can be done I just wouldn't want anyone hacking up my FI CBE but that's just me.

Don't let that happen. This is a high quality piece and a hack job would look like crap.

brewops 05-13-2016 04:19 PM

I bet it would be harder too since its less than 3 inches. What I don't want to happen is to spend $$ on the axel back and never find a buyer for the old setup.

Is the one your looking at in good shape? Assuming its a V2 system? I think you would be able to find a buyer maybe not right away but within a reasonable amount of time. If your really concerned about that I would just order a new one from F.I.

brewops 05-13-2016 04:39 PM

Woof, $682 for the rear section by itself. That + the cost of the non-nismo and its at or above new cost.

I couldn't remember what it costs but yea at that point your better off going new forsure. I wouldn't let any old muffler shop hack it up like that.

Unfortunately it's going to be a heck of a lot harder to find a used FI (or other CBE) that will fit my nismo the right way. Spending the cash on a clear bra before it gets too chipped up since it's almost my summer dd.

I don't like it myself and will change it. It is about 2.5 to 3 inches tucked in. I already have a shop in mind but have very little time right now to get it done.

ANY reputable shop can modify any exhaust even FI's. Just look at their work and check their materials and welds. You will have to pay more for good quality work and materials.

Find a shop who can mod it or give you options. There is no need for you to spend that much.

I'll see if my local club has any recommendations and can show some work before even thinking about it. Being that I have a 15, used and local up here in MN is almost impossible and it doesn't appear that there are any cheap options (besides washer mod) like an axel back to get my by while I save up.

Be sure to post pics if/when you get this done. Still debating on this, however I think the FI is V1 but not sure so I'm not entirely sure what a fair price would be. Clear bra is being installed right now so that's taking all of my cashflow for the car atm.

There are a couple axel back options for the 15/16 nismos out there... Top Speed, Beluga, J2... all the same manufacturer i believe. I jsut put the Top Speed on my '15 a few weeks ago... New they're like $299 and the sound is pretty amazing for the price. Worth checking out. I'd also checkout the AAM Short Tails...
