AAM Short tails- resonated vs non resonated
So apparently AAM makes resonated short tails as well by special order, problem is I cant find anything online with a sound clip or video for resonated short tails. I am seriously considering buying one of them very soon but I would like to know if anybody has heard the resonated short tails. I want a great exhaust note, who doesn't. I just don't want a shaky vibrating cabin from the AAM short tails as I heard they are very loud, way louder then a video could show you.
Any suggestions? Videos? Sound clips? Bwt all else of my car is stock, 2010 40th anniversary 370z. Also, I was quoted : from AAM -Short Tails - $411.84 Shipped -Resonated Short Tails- $541.05 Shipped |
For that price Id just save up and get a full cat back.

Those are the same size resonators as their resonated testpipes. They don't do a lot. I recommend getting the resonated testpipes with the resonated short tails. It will still be loud as hell.

I've had the resonated short tails on my car for a few weeks now and it's far from too loud. I'm very pleased with them and I'm buying the ART motordyne test pipes today as well lol. So let's see what loud really is =D

How's the drone? And at what RPM does the "sound explosion" turn itself on? (3000? 3500?) I've got ART pipes, the AAM mid pipe and AAM non-res short tails on my car. It's stupidly, almost painfully loud. If you're on the road behind me and not expecting it, it WILL make you flinch, lol. It's loud enough for you to feel the sound in your chest through your windshield. :ugh2: In 4 sound clip of your setup. :tiphat: |
Here's a clip of my instagram account with the Resonated short tails with a few revs. https://www.instagram.com/p/BEOraz3m...jmarra05&hl=en

So I listened to the sound clip on Joey's instagram.. Sounds pretty good to me.
From what I can tell, the resonated short tails do seem a tad quieter and definitely less raspy than the older non-resonated version. I have the non-res short tails on my car right now and I decided to bite the bullet for you guys and order the resonated version myself a few days ago. :ughdance: They should be arriving this afternoon in a few hours, so I'll be able to post a sound clip and let folks know for certain what kind of difference they make resonated vs non-resonated. :tiphat: |

AAM Resonated Short Tail Review/Comparison
Alright. So I got the new resonated short tails on the car this weekend. Initial impressions:
- No noticeable change in overall tone/deepness/growl (good thing, I was afraid of losing that aggressive grunt) - Noticeable reduction to interior droning (still drones, but MUCH more bearable, especially the dreaded hill climbs in cruising gears) -Maybe a 30-45% reduction to interior droning - Noticeable reduction in rasp/pinging -Volume increase as sound opens up at 3000 RPM+ is MUCH smoother, no longer cringy -I no longer feel as though I MUST shift before 3000 RPM out of consideration for the hearing of others - LARGE reduction in WOT volume (followed my car while someone else drove it, did not make me feel like my chest wanted to burst) -Still able to hear the car at a nice distance, but it won't make people swerve off the road if I stab the throttle from out of no where anymore -If I had to TRY to quantify the volume change (50-60% quieter at WOT) -Wife followed in her car with 6month old baby, baby didn't freak out once - Cold starts are still very, very brutal. Not much change there. - Seems to take some driving/small break-in for the resonators to fully mellow out and quiet down.. They seemed a bit loud still when I FIRST put them on the car, but after driving for 15 minutes or so, they began to get smoother/quieter. I did quite a bit of driving this weekend (200 miles or so) and that definitely made them quieter than when I first put them on (2 or 3 days ago). All in all, very satisfied with my upgrade to the resonated short tails from non-resonated. Still need to take some new video, sound clips, but I've got a video of a cold start on my instagram (look up covey.little, can't link it as I'm at work ATM). |

People ask me all the time if my car is straight piped. I tell them "almost." I think if the car was truly 100% straight-piped, no resonators, no nothing, it would sound horrible. A raspy, pingy, ricey mess. Going to try and stop slacking this weekend if the wife will give me the chance to get away from her and the baby to finally make a new video. |
Alright, finally stopped BSing and took a new video.. but it was very windy. :ughdance:
https://www.instagram.com/p/BFr84AalVWi/ It's on my instagram, but it's set to public so you guys should be able to check it out. Main difference the decrease in volume.. Easier to tell in person, but it's slightly more bassy and a bit more of the growl and rasp is filtered out. May try again on a day when it's not so windy. :tiphat: |
