Default Exhaust Question, Opinions needed

Alright boys and girls,

I need your opinions. I am currently running stock catback exhaust with Berk HFC's. A local person just put up for sale his Nismo exhaust (no headers) as he has upgraded, the listed price is $500.

My question has a few parts
1) price seems fair to me, given that I don't have to go pick it up, thoughts?
2) how different is the nismo exhaust from normal, is it significant enough to warrant the swap?
3) is anyone running the nismo exhaust plus Berk HFC's setup currently, it's hard to tell from the videos I've found what changes? I know that after my Berk hfc's I can make her pop if I rev up to like 3.5k-4K and let off. Also does it when I downshift, this sound just generally makes me happy, will I lose this sound?
4) if this was in your area and you had my setup would you pull the trigger with your tax refund or would you keep it and wait for some Fast Intentions or HKS or other catback to come along? (I'm aware the nismo exhaust is made by HKS, how similar are those two?)

Thanks for any input you can provide

KBC

1) Price does seem fair, you might find cheaper in the private classified but shipping is a killer.
2) Not much of a difference, it flows a little better the stock but not by much and it's pretty quiet too hence why people sell if for so little.
3) Sound shouldn't change much. Though I never heard that setup in person.
4) Probably not, depends on the condition, if it looks like almost new and no rust on the muffler can then maybe.

The non Nismo exhaust forces all the air through a 2 inch pipe, the Nismo have 2 2inch pipes so it is less restrictive. With that being said you can find used fast intentions exhaust for $800 to $1000 or a new one for $1300. The FI will sound much better and will make 20whp after install. I would look into a used FI setup if I where you.

dont waste your money.

nismo exhaust barely does anything different than non0nismo exhaust.

the exta HP in the nismo is from the tune not the exhuast. the nismo exhaust just has a barely increase on volume.

if you want more power and more sound go aftermarket. i suggest fast intentions

The stock 370z CBE exhaust diameter runs 2.25 inches and the Nismo exhaust is 2.5 inches (60 millimeters). Hence, the Nismo's larger exhaust diameter will improve your hp, typically in the 15-20 hp range, by reducing the back pressure. Candidly, any 60mm larger diameter exhaust will do this.

Thus, if you think the price is right go for it. Also despite what others claim in this thread, the Nismo's hp gain over the stock Z is not due to the tune, but the exhaust. If you search the forum, there is a tune mapping comparison and the difference is negligible.

Go on youtube or the sound thread and see what you like. A 3 inch y pipe or dual 2.5 with an x ill flow best with your berks, skip the nismo entirely. Ill be posting rollers through pittsburgh with the tomei set up but that is backorder everywhere

There is a reason many of us Nismo owners swap out our exhaust, if you were closer I would let you have mines for less than $500 more like $400 to be honest. The stock Nismo exhaust is nice, sound is quiet just too quiet for me, I liked the look of the Arc Grip V2, and the sound. After I swapped the exhaust I noticed the difference immediately in torque, don't know how much power was gained or lost since no tune or dyno.

I would recommend putting that money aside and saving up for something other than "stock", don't get me wrong it's nice just think you could do better.

I just want to dispel a couple things. That Nismo exhaust, as quiet as it is, flows pretty damn well. It has two pipes, diameters ranging from 2 1/8th to 2 1/4 depending on where you're measuring on the exhaust. It's an H pipe design, not the crap Y pipe the base 370Z has. It should sound a bit louder and deeper than a stock exhaust, still tame. a 2.5" dual exhaust will flow mildly better, but its not going to make much more power over the Nismo H pipe exhaust.

For the price, it's hard to beat the Nismo exhaust, but there are better exhausts out there.
