Custom intake manifold

So I just got the word from my shop Moore Performance that they are working with an engineer and want to use my car as a test car for a custom intake manifold. Its in the early stages and the car wont get fitted until late winter but it is starting. The plan is cast aluminum for the manifold with the option to expand to a turbo setup. Ill probably get custom carbon fiber intakes made while its in there because the engineer loves the VQ and likes to work with carbon fiber. Subscribe and ill post info as I get it :)

Haha they will work on anything if you ask. I took me sti down there and dropped $$$ for custon fabbed parts then a vw totaled it.... their engineer did work on the 350. They are in pittsburgh and 370's are like exotics up here lol so I told them I wanted to stay na and I guess they see a market for the kit.

yea Pittsburgh CnC Pittsburgh Cars 'N' Coffee - Index page

sadly our last regular meet was this past Saturday followed by a Kart outing. 10/31 we are doing a trunk or treat show at quaker steak in cranberry. basically small show where we put out bags of candy for kids and do a mini trick or treat thing.

it's very big and the Z is towards the bottom of the totem pole of what shows up lol.

I used to go once in a blue moon to starlite with my dad or the mustang club but didn't even make it out there this year.

a few of my buddies in the mustang club go to that garage one often. I still haven't gone there yet.

the regular cars and coffee is always a treat. there's some cars you'd never think to see in this area that come out. P1, F40, lambos galore, GT-R nismos, every flavor of Ferrari, etc...

check out the pics on the site or youtube Pittsburgh cars and coffee and a million vids come up. even had my Z featured on DoctaM3's channel lol

back on topic for a sec: let me know when moore makes some headway with the intake and CF pieces. if they look good and make some power I may have to buy it. :tiphat:

with TB's your best bet is probably port and polish. not many if any options for larger TBs unless someone makes them for you.

make a build thread and keep us all up to date. welcome to the forum :tiphat:

here's some off-topic CnC vids for you.

I've been waiting for a while for one of these to hit the market. Looks like I have to wait a little longer. I better start saving money for it.

Forget that..... I was in shorts today, still am....:)

EzDz 10-18-2015 12:06 AM

There were no Z's there lol. You woulda been a rockstar

roplusbee 10-18-2015 02:50 AM

I would venture to say that if it is stronger than the stock plastic, people will buy. There are plenty of turbo (and twin turbo) guys out there that want a metal, carbon, or stronger than ABS plastic intake plenum/manifold for boost.

I'm trying to hold out for CJM, but I would entertain others if the quality of spot on.

Dont port the oem ones if youre doing a custom mani. Get two maxima TB's with the same plug as ours and port those. They start at like 70mm while ours are only 58mm. Porting will only get you 63mm while porting a maxima will get you closer to 80mm. At that point ditch the injen with the 2.75" pipe and 2.5" MAF housing and go full 3"!

Oh forsure! Were looking at sizes on the manifold then talking with the tuner to see what size he would like. The tb's would match up to the manifold size and then build custom intakes off that. The goal is to gain 30+ wheel with supporting mods like long tube headers. Ill probably stick to 7600 rpm limit and get it tuned spot on for that. Im making a build thread as soon as I get home today!

yea it was too cold and not worth it for me to wash the car and go up there. it's only a 15-20 min drive for me but still I was at the house with many Guinness pints from dinner in me and a case of miller lite waiting in the fridge lol

PM me later. there's a drag strip track rental next sunday at PRP I can get you in on if you're interested. think i'm gonna go.

SO when you get the manifold, TBs and intakes done, they will start producing and selling them? I wonder what kind of gains the larger TBs and new manifold could pick up NA for a car that already has the LTHs.

Good question. If porting gets 10hp id love to see a bigger mani and bigger ported maxima TB's. Im not sold on bigger CAI's though. My 2.75" did crap so i doubt a port matched 3" CAI would do anything. The guy on facebook selling custom 3" CAI's competely disagrees but of course he would as he's trying to make money. I still want the one piece JCR carbon fiber GTR mani from the UK!! Gains or not i want it! Maybe one day...

my 2.75 intakes got my bigger gains than pretty much anyone on here with the same amount/type of mods......

oh that's BS I've seen that dyno spit low numbers on people lol sha dynoed before me and only hit something 317 with almost the same set-up

now if we're talking about someone's dyno reading generous........:stirthepot:

you know where that's going lol

Our dyno reads lower than most dynos in our area. Most read around 10-20hp more even on a Mustang dyno which does not compute. Also each car is different. We have had a couple of header installed cars that only make around 320rwhp.

I can attest to this! and if anyone wants to blame somebody blame me. #serialdynocrusher bwahahaha

EzDz 10-21-2015 12:39 PM

I dont have a baseline dyno so I cant even say anything:icon14: I dont see why matching intake, tb, and manifold wouldnt net 30+. The stock mani is like 4 different sizes and step downs

No ill have to find it. Altima might have them too as all dual nissan/infiniti cars are the same and im sure all nissan/infiniti single TB's are the same. Theres a ton on ebay.

Id say 20hp but theres always hope. If porting all that on oem stuff nets 10hp id hope for 20hp on bigger/better items.

brucelidat 10-21-2015 01:27 PM

Any bolt-on mod that would give NA guys 20 whp on top of all the normal bolt-ons would be very popular. Hope this works out and goes to market.
