I know this sounds lame, but need to know how to replace....
I have a 2010 Nismo with Gen 3 Stillen cold air intakes with K&N air filters, dealer installed back in early 2011. Car has 42k miles on it. I'm thinking it's about time to pull the filters off and clean/replace them.
However, I don't see an easy way to get to them. The installation videos I have seen show pulling the entire bumper off to install the Intakes. Is that what I need to do to clean/replace the filters? Anyone have any youtube or other links that explain the process? I can pay the dealership to do it, but would prefer to do IT myself. Thanks in advance!!! (gotta laugh every time a get a form letter from a dealership that NEEDS to buy my 2010 NISM0... No Chance In HE11):rofl2: |
You'll have to pull the front bumper. It's fairly easy. Just like you, I was scared the first time I did it, but I assure you, it's easy.

Takes about 15 minutes to pull the front bumper. First time you're doing it. Take your time. Watch out for the fasteners by the headlights, in the fender. Also lay a rug under the bumper that you can lay the bumper on it.

I would also tape up along the edges of the head lights and fenders where your bumper might come in contact and scratch the car. Other than that it's an easy task. If you have the oiled type K&Ns, you'd need to pick up a bottle of intake cleaner and oil to clean the filter and re apply the oil. They sell the kit at autozone ~15 or so.

When you wash the filters. Let them dry completely. Don't use compressed air. You might tear a filter. Use a shop vac to remove the water. Don't over oil the filters. Spray one even light coat of oil over them. Too much oil. And the oil will travel all the way to the throttle bodies. |
Thanks Y'all, I appreciate the input. I'll take a swing at it in the next couple of weeks!!!
