OPINIONS: Having Trouble Choosing which Brand to Buy!
I'm needing opinions on these 3 brands for the y-pipe that I need.
I know some members have had the parts installed, all I need is some feedback on which part would be best for my Z. (Recently installed Berk HFC and Apexi-RS exhaust. Needing a better Y-pipe since the stock is crap.) 1) Magnaflow XYZ 2)Tanabe Y-Pipe or 3) AAM Y-Pipe Thanks! |

To be honest, any Y-Pipe will do. Even a cheap one off eBay, though there might be quality issues. If you want to stick with JDM go with Tanabe otherwise I would say you would be fine with something like the TopSpeed Y-pipe.

I see...I'm just worried about the sound changing lol Right now it has a really low growling sound which I like. I heard that whichever Pipe you get, it can change the tone and sound when you accelerate. btw, what the difference from a Y,H and X pipe?

It can a little bit but from what I've heard not by much as the material is the same. What can change it is the configuration sick as the y, h and x pipe. They are just the design of the pipe and how the gases flow of of them. I'm not too knowledgeable about that so it's hard for me to explain. I'm sure you could find am answer online.

Each pipe looks like it's letter. If you need a Y-pipe, you won't be able to use an X or H-pipe. A Y-pipe connects to the both cats (your HFCs) on one end and a mid-pipe with a single outlet on the other end. X and H-pipes have two outlets on each end in a true dual exhaust design. The crossover is to balance the exhaust pressures. This image is a decent example of X and H-pipes. The Y-pipe shown is different than the Z because the Z transitions back to a dual exhaust in the mid-pipe (unless you have aftermarket exhaust with true dual exhaust design).

Some CBE (like the stock exhaust and a variety of aftermarket exhausts) use a Y-pipe with a mid-pipe that pinch down to one outlet. A true dual CBE (like Fast Intentions) uses an X or H-pipe, so there are two pipes running the entire length of the exhaust.

The APEX'i is not singe exit. My Tomei is but I had the APEX'i and it was a dual although it is not true dual.

I guess I was looking at the Apexi-RS Evolution. My fault Still, the mid-pipe on the non-evolution is similar to stock in that utilizes the single exit from the Y-pipe and transitions to dual pipes going into the mufflers.

And I wasn't questioning your decision. As long as you're happy But if you wanted true dual, that's very different from single exit lol
