Default 350z tomei cat back issues

Hi guys,

I've installed the 350z version of the tomei expreme Ti cat back and i'm not sure if i've done the install correctly.

I didn't do any shaving or what not to fit it but i've read that shaving would need to be done.

The muffler now sits on an angle and currently scraping on the muffler.

Could anyone who has the z33 system post a picture under their car including the shaved brace if possible. i would like to compare it to mine.

Only picture i have at the moment. I'll take a better one in the morning.

I know that I couldn't even leave my brace bar on. From the looks of it, it looks about right. I can't really tell but is the muffler sitting on the bumper? And if your car is lowered, it will be a lot lower. The Tomei sits low as is.

Yeah its lowered but i didn't expect it to drop this much. As its mostly from the angled muffler scraping. Anywho heres some more pictures

Easier to see how much angled the muffler actually is

Yup that looks about right. That is how it sits on my car.

Yeah mines site really low, already tore a hole in the bottom and flattened it out. Cant really tell though when looking at it up close from behind and didn't change the sound at all. I clocked the piping a little past where the spring hoops would line up to make it to where it would rub on the cross member and the sway bar. Dropped the rear hangar down about and inch too so it wasn't touching the rear bumper.

Ah that clears it up.

When installing did you leave out one of the hangers because it didn't reach the hole?

Mainly scarping from here. So i might weld on some thick metal to protect it

I only used the farthest rear hangar, looks like the band that goes around the can is located different on mine than it is on yours. I also had a hand formed thick piece of stainless welded on the can at the lowest point. Just had a few tack welds and ripped that thing off with in a few weeks. Probably should have fully welded it on. Now I know why the Nismo RC's single titanium has a slant cut at the bottom with a flat plate welded on.

Hm yeah i kind of just set the band by default when i bolted on the muffler hanger. Is your exhaust the z33 one or z34 one?

Could you take a picture of the stainless welded onto the muffler? Trying to think of a shape that'll be best.

Z33, and it got ripped off at over 130mph hitting a dip. Ever seen the hydrofoil racing boats? Imagine the wake of water one of those puts off, but bright white titanium sparks 2 lanes wide. Was the size of a baseball and was hand hammer formed to follow the exact contour of the bottom of the can lapping over onto the end towards where the exhaust flows inward.

If you shave down the brace bar where the pipe comes under it you Can get it high enough to not scrape at stock height. I drove one for a year with no problems and now have the Z34 version.
