370z Nismo Tomei Ground Clearance Issues?

Hey Guys, I recently finished installing the new 370z Tomei ExpremeTi exhaust and noticed there is very little ground clearance for the rear of the exhaust.

http://www.the370z.com/members/nkryp...ei-exhaust.jpg

I'm currently riding at stock height but was planning to drop it an inch or two... Given the little amount of ground clearance I'm re-thinking that plan. Has anyone else installed the new 370z version and seen ground clearance issues?

I'm hoping I did something stupid like install a pipe upside down but looking for confirmation.

Is that a single exit exhaust or just a dual that's not done yet? The outlet pipe looks small if it's just a single.

nkryptd1 05-31-2015 10:38 PM

It's a single... I currently have the silencer in due to one of my neighbor's complaining about the noise =]

Ah ha. I see now. I bet that single setup sounds much better than the duals.

Not sure if it's better or not but it's loud as heck... My main issue is with the pipe connecting to the muffler, the one that swings out. It has maybe 5" of ground clearance. I've already scrapped the pipe on a flat road w/ stock suspension.

Just seems A LOT lower then past exhausts I've used on other vehicles.

Gilianz 06-01-2015 02:19 AM

Well... I am in a load of trouble if the clearance really is that low for stock. I am already lowered. Hopefully this issue isn't that bad. Does the mid-pipe go through the middle of the sway bar then come back around?

FairladyZ10PG 06-01-2015 12:04 PM

...looks like if I had tomei's I'd scrape everywhere

guess it's not for me

Hope you won't have too much trouble with the drop op

speedfreek 06-01-2015 12:14 PM

I scrape the pipe that tucks under the rear differential. High speeds and bumps don't mix well for the Tomei. Everyone behind me said they liked the titanium sparks at Zdayz :shakes head:

If you are lowered expect that piece to get scratched up. The only good news is that Z1 said you will be able to buy just that piece if it ever gets worn out or damaged to heavily.

I'm bagged and ride my car with less than .5 inches of wheel gap front and rear. Dampening set to 18 on all four corners, sitting on a 20 inch wheel. I have no issues. It is pretty on par with the version 1 FI exhaust system with the angle of that pipe.

Well that is more comforting to know. I'll be getting this version of the Tomei later this week I just don't want to be worried that I'll scrape that piece up too badly.

I don't know about the tomei, but my Invidia sits pretty low where the mid pipe connects. Right by the control arm, I have like an inch or two of clearance on that pipe but don't scrape it often and I'm always flying over bumpy roads.

Flying cars are the best cars! But glad to know you don't scrape it often!

The exhaust routes under the center of the rear sway bar then come back around. Basically comes through the center of the vehicle and then exits left.

Thank you for all the replies guys... Given the comment that the pipe can be replaced w/o purchasing a whole entire exhaust, I feel a little better. I plan to drop it and just go with it. Thanks again guys!

derraj06 06-03-2015 09:19 PM

It also looks like you could rotate that pipe a little and get it higher up. I'm dropped on HKS GT IVs and I scrape but it's because my preload isn't set right and the car is soft right now.

Wel that just sucks if you ask me...(by "suck" im actually refering to your neighbors) :stirthepot:

Well, here's an update. I have installed the 370z Tomei and it sits way better than the 350z version (as expected). The downside to this is that I scrape everywhere and everything. Friend was riding his bike back behind me and said he just saw sparks fly while I was driving on a perfectly smooth surface.

Are you lowered at all? Or stock ride height?

abm89 06-08-2015 08:17 AM

This is why I didn't go to the Z34 version.

Yeah, I didn't think it would be that low but I fixed it... I just took a hose clamp and pulled the exhaust up. So far no scrapes! I will need some loctite to hold that screw in place so it doesn't loosen over time though.

I am lowered on coilovers.

I would like to see a picture of your setup in order to replicate it. I would like to quit scraping as well.

How much quieter is the exhaust with the silencer in it?

cranzy 07-26-2015 12:48 PM

I have the same issue. It sits way too low and I'm scraping like a mofo. My car is lowered 1 inch but I don't have coilovers =.=

Zbrah 07-26-2015 01:16 PM

Where can I find the oversized hose clamp?

Which springs are you running?

It is still quite loud but noticeably more quiet. You will still turn heads and might get complaints but still slightly more quiet.

I actually got these at Home Depot. They were like $2 so... relatively cheap fix although I wish they would have made the exhaust with this in mind instead of have it scrape the ground when lowered. I had higher expectations from Tomei.

Okay, thanks! I had been looking all over for these but I guess I was looking at the wrong place:tup:

No problem! Hope it fixes the problem as it did mine to some extent. The only thing that I will say is that as you tighten it more the pipe near the y-pipe will touch the heat shield. Nothing major but you will hear the occasional rattling.
