Best bolt on intake/exhaust??

I want an intake and exhaust for my Z but I don't need anything spectacular and would like something simple.. What intake/exhaust do you recommend that are bolt on (no cutting or other complications)?

Any quality catback exhaust will bolt up no problem. With intakes you are a little more restricted as the good cold air systems require either minor cutting to get it to fit (Stillen G3) or relocating the washer fluid reservoir (Injen).

I have a Fast Intentions catback and K&N drop-in filters. Very happy with them.

For a low cost intake setup, go with K&N drop-ins and Z1 post-MAF tubes.

What's your budget for the CBE?

As the others have said, Z1 silicon post-MAF tubes and a K&N or aFe filter, plus a Fast Intention exhaust is your best option. However, there are many other quality exhausts less expensive than FI.

Sounds good.. I will probably go for a deeper sounding exhaust rather than FI..

Question: why are the z1 silicone tubes better than the k&n intake pipes? (Sorry if it's a dumb question)

Thanks, really appreciate everyone's advice!!

I don't want to spend too much on the exhaust.. Looking less than $1500

For $1,500, you've got a lot of choices. Check out these threads -

Takeda Attack CAI requires no cutting or relocation

Awesome, thank you!!

What about the z1 tubes? Why are the z1 silicone tubes better than the k&n intake pipes?

Not a dumb question at all. The issue with the K&N CAI is that the filters sit in the engine bay and will potentially suck in hot air generated by the engine. Yes, there are some baffles that separate the filters from the engine bay, but I don't think they're very effective. Contrast that with the Stillen Gen3 or Injen CAI, which collect cool air from in front of the radiator.

I wasn't aware that you could buy the K&N tubes separately from the CAI kit. If you can, knock yourself out. Really, what you're trying to get away from is the restrictive design of the stock tubes. They are not smooth at all and disrupt the flow of air to the TBs.

Going by your guard rails......
  • Invidia Gemini or Ark or Top Speed exhaust
  • Z1 tubes and better filters.

If you want spectacular and not so simple.
  • Fast Intentions, Motordyne, PPE, or the up and coming, money burning Armytryx (unsure about the power gains on these though)
  • Stillen or Takeda's

Cutting not required but I tried without cutting and you bend and squeeze the hell out of the tubing so when I reinstalled I went ahead and cut much easier install took less time and less problems just my experience with it. TBH it took about 10 minutes on each side with a dremel and it's still snug but the tubing is no longer twisted and bent which I didn't like.

Like others have said you can go with injen but who wants to replace the washer reservoir... You run into re locating the fuse box with the Nismo R tune CAI I believe I almost went that route but in the end Takeda Attack was a better option for me.

Amazing help guys.. Really appreciate it!!

I like the deep sound of the borla.. Is it straight bolt on? Or do you need to make adjustments?

37zeroZ 05-23-2015 09:38 AM

My setup is a Stillen Gen 3 intake with AAM midpipe with short tail exhaust. Happy with the sound and performance. Plus, wasn't difficult to install.
