Nismo R-Tune Long Tube Intake

Default Nismo R-Tune Long Tube Intake

Installed the intake last weekend and it was simple and straightforward. There were several parts left out of the kit: four hose clamps, a 90 degree fitting, and an aluminum adapter for connecting the oem filler tube to the new reservoir. I rigged up a hose while I waited for the missing parts to be shipped which arrived today. Unfortunately the adapter for the filler neck doesn't fit - it's too small.

I have a '14 Nismo and some vendors list the kit for '09-11 and some list it for '09 and later. I checked online Nissan parts and the OEM filler neck is for '09 and later but apparently mine is different than the one the kit is designed for. Next week I plan on going to the dealer and comparing filler necks and check if the adapter will fit on an earlier model filler neck and if so, will the neck fit (or can be made to fit) in my '14. I have a couple more options in my head if this doesn't pan out.

As far as the intake I'm very pleased with the performance and sound. I have no other aftermarket intakes to compare it to and no dyno run is planned. So this is just a heads-up to any others who may purchase the Nismo R-Tune intake that you will have to make adaptations for the wiper reservoir.

Many have asked about the wiring for the washer. The kit comes with the required extensions but does require splicing the extensions into the existing wiring. If you screw up or want to revert the section of the harness modified is only about a foot long before a plug - should be able to purchase a replacement although I couldn't find the part in the online catalog. Perhaps it comes with the washer pump or level sensor.

Changed my oil at the same time. Set the pan 1/8" to far to the left...

Something I may try if a 2011 filler neck can't be made to work: I sourced a PVC pipe fitting with a threaded opening to screw the 90 degree fitting into. The neck fits well into the opening and with a bead of silicone adhesive caulk to seal could work, but seems kinda' ghetto to me, like duct tape and baling wire.

I could use the supplied filler neck for the regular Z. It mounts on the opposite side (driver) from the bottle but with a couple of fittings and a long hose might work.

These side shields direct air into the radiator by sealing the space between the bumper cover and frame at each side. I cut out the circular section in the center to allow airflow to the intake and filter and reinstalled the driver side, but the right side will need more work to fit around the new washer reservoir, hose, and wiring. I noticed at first drive after installation my oil temp was 25 degrees higher than with the shields intact and stock intake. I attribute this to some air that used to flow through the radiator now being diverted to the intake. It will be interesting to see after I further modify the right side shield and reinstall it whether the temp will decrease to previous levels or remain slightly elevated.

The only thing coming close to the install is the power steering cooler lines. There is about 3/8" clearance between the bolt head mounting the new reservoir and the aluminum line. I have to remove the right side fender liner to finish the filler neck install and I'll double check for contact wear at that time. As long as there is no significant movement of the lines it should remain clear.

Finally got around to dealing with the washer filler tube install. I purchased a filler tube for a base Z and had intended to cut off the lower half and merge it with the Nismo upper half but as it turns out I didn't need to. I simply installed the base Z filler tube and it fit with no clearance issues.

So if you have a Nismo Z you will need to purchase a filler tube for a base Z to replace the Nismo tube, otherwise the hose adapter will not fit as the ends that fit into the stock reservoirs are different.

Anyone know why this intake has those large silicone couplers? I it a vibration thing or does it have to do with air flow? I am debating between this intake and the stillen gen3. The Nismo is attractive to me because it is a little less popular and seems to tuck away nicely but i would change the silicone couplers to coloured ones, unless you guys think that would be bad?

Any thoughts?

I had the Nismo intake on my 11 Nismo and liked it. I added Berk cats and Uprev tune and posted the results in here. Only issue was the wiper fluid reservoir empty light was on even when it was full. I followed the instructions on switching it over. With the intake and my mode I got 316 hp at the wheels.

I tried rotating the pump and sensor 90 degrees and that helped lengthen the time it took for the light to come on. I read another thread with the identical problem and the guy rotated it until it was in a position to function properly so next time I have it up on stands I'll rotate it again until it works as intended.
