things to do in Hawaii?

Aloha,

I am going to Hawaii (Waikiki beach for 1 week) for my honeymoon in June, and was wondering any good restaurants or sightseeing locations.
We have planned for the dinner cruise, snorkeling, Luau, and the island tour with a rental car so far.

My priority is: good restaurant > sightseeing > activity > shopping

Thanks!

First and foremost....congrats.

In Waikiki food places...are you up to anything reasonable? Go to Roys in Beachwalk, Giovannis across the street for pastrami and sweet potato fries, Marukame Udon for....udon and tempura, Chibos for Okonomiyaki,...heck just holler when it gets closer.

We can walk you through Waikiki a bit to these places. At least point them out for you if you like. I am usually in Waikiki on Saturdays walking around and enjoying the scene and food places.

When I lived there back in the 90s there was the flea market at Aloha Stadium once a week. L&L Plate lunch and my faborite snack Spam Musubi....mmmmmmm.

I would spend any reasonable price for the fine dining.
Those restaurants sound very yummy :)
I'll be in Waikiki on saturday night (very late) through the following Friday night.

Do you suggest any fun activities?

RandyD 05-05-2012 01:59 PM

the Kobi steak house is awesome there.

ZCarMan 05-05-2012 06:26 PM

Dukes was always a good when I was there as well.

Mike 05-06-2012 10:00 AM

rental car? If so, you can't beat breakfast at the Haleiwa Cafe on the North Shore.

Fresh prawns from the trucks on the north shore are also great.

MacCool 05-06-2012 10:07 AM

Not a big fan of Waikiki, crowded and touristy in the extreme. On Oahu, much more relaxed with a rental car and staying at Turtle Bay on the north shore.

sojirovskensi 05-06-2012 11:24 AM

it looks like i have a good list of restaurants..
any fun activities or must-watch?
Thanks!

RandyD 05-06-2012 12:19 PM

visit the north shore.
pineapple plantation
Pearl Harbor memorial.
Hike Diamond Head.

genki370z 05-06-2012 04:17 PM

head to polynesian culture center- watch the fire show!!
head to Kaneohe Bay, head to GoZip. its an awesome ziplining place.
head to Aloha stadium Wed, or over the weekend for there swap meet.
take a helicopter cruise around the island.
if your into history, the Iolani Palace Tour.
take a drive around the island, its about 4 hours lol. depends on driving conditions.
head to Hanauma Bay. its awesome! lots of fish to look at.
for shopping purposes, cant go wrong with Ala Moana Mall, Waikiki strip.

Go to MAC 24/7 and try their pancake challenge...haha

I always liked MAC 24/7 after clubbing, the food was great. My fav was spinach omelet they made.

If you are planning on going to Hanauma Bay go early, like before sunrise early. Hiking up Diamond Head is neat and not too hard. There's also the Koko Head trail but some folks tend to twist an ankle there.

Oh yeah, the outdoor rigger restaurant is pretty good too. If I remembered the name correctly.

Aloha!

Our group go to these food spots regularly. A little different from your Waikiki spots:

Da Kitchen (Fried Spam Masubi) @Honolulu
Rainbow Drive Inn (Corn Beef Hash FTW) @Honolulu
Boots and Kimo (Red Velvet Pancakes) @Kailua
Sikdorak (Korean BBQ Yakiniku Buffet) @Honolulu
Yogur Story (Fat Pig Fried Rice) @Honolulu
Hank's Haute Dogs (Kobe Beef Dogs) @Honolulu
Uncle Bo's (Warm Spinach Salad, Dynamite Shrimp, & the Seafood Trap) @Honolulu
Side Street Inn (Pork Chops!) @Honolulu
Ted's Bakery (Haupia Pie and Glazers!) @Sunset Beach (North Shore)

And if you are here on the LAST FRIDAY of the month, they have this event called: Eat the Street. The location and food themes change constantly so keep an eye out for ads or ask the locals. Just imagine all the food trucks all coming together in a giant parking lot with other cool events (and hot girls).

Hope that helps!

There's a Thai restaurant in Haleiwa that's really excellent. If you're renting a car (you should) it's an easy drive from Honolulu once you clear the city traffic, which can be a real bitch. You really should tour the north shore...get a look at some of the most famous surfing beaches in the world - Sunset, Waimea, Banzai Pipeline. Consider hiking Waimea canyon. Nice little interpretative center. You can go all the way back to the falls if you don't mind the gaggle of tourists.

Also, consider going up to the Kualoa Ranch (certainly will be a bus leaving from your hotel)...take a 4-wheeler or horseback tour of the Ka'a'awa Valley. Lot's of TV shows and movies shot there, including LOST and Jurassic Park.

The helicopter tour really is something that should be done. Do one that circles the island...really the best way to get a feel for Oahu, especially Diamond Head, KokoHead, and Pearl Harbor.

Of course, if you have never been to the USS Arizona Memorial, its a must. Plus the USS Missouri is another great place to visit.

I love that place, great edamame too!

Also, the strip clubs in Hawaii are pretty good if you are into that.

If you pay $100, you can get the "off the path" tour of the USS Missouri. THAT is amazing.

I was stationed on Oahu for 10 yrs of my army career and loved it. Everything is fun. My favorite thing to do in waikiki was the tourist! New flights coming in every night and there always hot for sex as soon as the check in to their hotel! Lots of hot couples that like to swing also ... If that's your thing. Hey it's a vacation do something fun right lol

Yeah you can Bring your own drinks too. I would get there early because it gets packed.

Man Def I wish I would have known about the local grinds back when I was on island. Those red velvet pancakes sound great! I like Korean BBQ too. I went to Sorabol in Honolulu and the only item I could read on the menu was bin-bin-bap.

but for reals, hit up the beaches... visit shark's cove up in north shore (pre 2pm) as it isn't crowded and great for snorkeling.
