Well, the pricing was much better back then too... it seems every time I call them, the price goes up $100

Ron 01-29-2014 02:51 PM

hahah better hurry up then. The price on rods themselves are worth it.

Chuck33079 01-29-2014 02:54 PM

I'm going to have to eat the standard pricing sometime down the line. Dec/Jan is the worst time of the year for me as far as impulse buys go.

OldBoy 01-29-2014 07:55 PM

Like I said, I'm in for piston and rods.

phunk 01-29-2014 10:10 PM

phunk: pistons + rods
OldBoy: pistons + rods
Ron: rods

We need 2 more sets moving!!!

Fellas

I have a few questions while I decide what brand to go with.

1) What CR are the GTM/Arias extreme series pistons?

2) What are the benefits of picking CP? If all of these pistons can tolerate 700+hp then what difference does the decision make in the grand scheme of things?

I really like that Phunk has stepped up to arrange a good deal for us- good work Phunk!

I am not sure about the Arias pistons that GTM carries. It never occurred to me to research their options!

In most scenarios, the vehicles performance or reliability will not demonstrate a superior piston between an Arias and a CP. My personal reason for choosing CP is based on experience and conversations with machine shops who see the results of built bottom ends more frequently than any performance shop. I find a general preference for CP to be rather common... but I also never hear that other brands would be considered a bad decision. I have engines running over 10 years on CP pistons now... while that doesnt exactly give me a hardcore brand loyalty or speak of any other brand, I prefer to stick with what I already know works.

The greater expense you may notice of these pistons comes into play due to the custom construction / specs. To use a "off the shelf" pistons from CP, makes their pricing much more competitive with other brands.

CP can also be trusted to properly design these custom pistons due to their experience with the VQ engine. They have all the data to compare between the difference versions of VQ motors and within a 45 minute phone call with them, we were able to come up with the specs for a 10:1 piston that is going to work with both HR and VHR heads with no drama. I can also trust that their heavy custom VQ piston experience means I will not have any trouble with misc drama such as oil squirter clearance etc... which I could mention my first set of Arias for a DE motor did not consider, requiring custom machining to the pistons... although I am sure that problem is long ago corrected (my experience was 10 years back)!

I have just had nothing but positive experiences with CP, and I have heard the same from many others. It sure would be nice if the piston manufacturers would catch up to the trends and start offering shelf pistons in the mid-range of compression ratios, especially for all the E85 builds... but until then, its a custom build price.

Last chance to get it in this!

This is it... I swear! LOL after Wednesday I am officially washing my hands of this group buy effort!

OldBoy 02-04-2014 09:17 PM

Charles, you should post something in the Forced Induction section. You'd probably get more attention there for the group buy. Just sayin'....

OMGWTFBBQ 02-05-2014 12:03 AM

So... what you're saying is that if ONE person jumped in on this for a set of pistons and rods.. everyone would be saving about $250-300 for a set of pistons or rods?

You are probably right! I just dont feel right posting an ad in that section. I had it in my signature for a long time to see if people there would catch it, but it didnt appear to help!

From what I was told in my last conversation with CP... that was the case!

However, for all I know they already started on my pistons... once they start, it is too late. However I am going to assume that just like anything I do around here, it probably only takes them a few days to build the pistons, its just a matter of squeezing it in the schedule.

Good luck Charles. welcome to build block world!
